IELTS General

The IELTS General Training training test is a prerequisite for those candidates who wish to move to an English speaking country for migration, work experience, secondary education or training programs. It focuses on testing a candidate’s English language proficiency in everyday life based on social and professional situations.

The IELTS General Training test is accepted by the immigration authorities of Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the UK. Organisations and Institutions ranging from professional registration bodies in the field of accounting, engineering, law, medicine and nursing accept IELTS General Training Test scores as a proof for English language proficiency. It is also accepted by employers from the sectors such as banking and finance, government, construction, energy and natural resources, aviation, health and tourism.

Test Structure

The IELTS General Training tests all four language skills that are important for effective communication: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. The structure of the IELTS General Training is as follows:

Listening

(30 minutes) (Scoring scale: 0-9 bands)Listening section has four sections, each with 10 items (or questions). Each item is worth one mark.

Reading

(60 minutes) (Scoring scale: 0-9 bands) Reading section has 3 passages and 40 items (questions). Each item is worth one mark.

Writing

(60 minutes) (Scoring scale: 0-9 bands) Writing section consists of 2 tasks I.e Writing Task 1- Letter writingand Writing Task 2 - Short essay writing Candidates must answer BOTH tasks.

Speaking

(10 - 15 minutes) (Scoring scale: 0-9 bands) Speaking test is a face-to-face interaction between the candidate and an examiner.

All the sections have a 0.5 band increment. There is no negative marking in the IELTS.

Module 2: IELTS Listening

In the Listening module for IELTS General Training, the test takers are supposed to answer the questions testing their listening skills based on four recorded texts that will be played for them. To prepare for the Listening section, the candidate needs to:
