Book Review

Books provide wisdom and knowledge to us. Books prevent trials and errors. Instead of learning everything from our mistakes, it is better to learn from others' mistakes. One of the efficient ways to gain wisdom from others' mistakes is by reading books. It can change our whole perception towards the world and life. Scientific studies say that reading fiction improves our empathy. Reviewing a book is about extracting the important elements from the book, evaluating the form of writing, and how it will affect the readers.

Generally, there are four stages in book review: Introducing the book, outlining the contents of the book, highlighting the parts of the book, and evaluating the book. To review a book, first we need to introduce what kind of topic that book deals with and who will benefit from the book. Placing the book in its field is also important because it gives an idea about the book’s essence to the readers. In the second stage , the reviewer will outline a general view on how the book is organised and should state each topic or section. After, the reviewer highlights the parts of the book which he or she considers as a significant portion of the book. Those highlighted parts will be evaluated and the argument of the book will be criticized. During Evaluation, the reviewer will comment on aspects of the content and how much it will satisfy the readers’ needs. To conclude, the reviewer gives some information about the book such as its price and format and recommends if it is worth reading.

Freud’s Psychosexual Development

Sigmund Freud, a popular psychoanalyst who focuses and studies the unconscious mind of an individual. He believed that the unconscious mind reveals an individuals’ true personality. Freud believed that personality develops by the series of childhood stages, in which id focused on different erogenous zones. Two important concepts that everyone should know are fixation and libido. Each stage has its own conflicts, it should be resolved in order to develop a healthy personality.If it is not done, fixation will occur which means an individual is stuck in their stage. And, Libido is defined as a psychosexual energy which acts as a driving force behind the behaviours. Psychoanalytic theory states that personality will be established at the age of five.  There are five stages in total, Oral Stage, Anal Stage, Phallic Stage, Latent Stage and Genital Stage.

In Oral Stage, infants’ derive pleasure from their mouth. Tasting and Sucking will be the primary activity during the oral stage to satisfy its hunger. In Anal stage, libido will be focused on controlling the bladder and bowel movements. In this stage, a child needs to know to control their bodily needs to successfully overcome this stage. In the Phallic Stage, the primary focus of libido will be on genitals. Here, the concepts such as Oedipus Complex and Electra Complex enter. In Latent Stage, the sexual feeling will be inactive and children focused on to develop social skills, values and build relationships. During the Genital Stage, puberty activates the libido, once more. And, an individual develops a sexual interest to their opposite sex.

Albert Einstein

Albert Einstein was born at Ulm, on March 14, 1879. He trained as a teacher in physics and mathematics in Swiss Federal Polytechnic School in Zurich. Two things affected his childhood deeply, one was his encounter with compass and when he discovered a geometry book. He gained his diploma in 1901 and worked as a technical assistant in the Swiss Patent Office. At the Patent Office, in his spare time, Einstein produced some of the remarkable works, in 1908. In the 1920s, Einstein worked on unified field theories and contributed to statistical mechanics. Einstein began several world tours to the United States, France, England and Japan in 1921. He received a Nobel prize in physics for photoelectric effect rather than relativity theories in Japan. Einstein gave a speech about relativity theory to his audience rather than the photoelectric effect. He wanted to formulate a master theory which enables him to read the mind of God.
