Endowed in the year 1970, the college is one of the most significant public degree-granting college placed in the Royal city of western Canada, New Westminster in British Columbia. Douglas College was given named after Sir James Douglas, Hudson’s Bay Company Chief Factor & Governor of Vancouver Island and British Columbia. It offers degree and University courses to the learners ranging from Science & Technology, Literature & Arts to programs in Healthcare, Business, and Human & Social Services. The college follows their motto ” Do what you love. Be good at it” to inspire as well as to make the connection between their life and their profession. It has over 24,000 learners enrolled, among which 17,000 are credit students and 8,500 continuing education students, and among them, 4210 are international students coming from 92 distinct countries.

Campus Life

As mentioned earlier, it possesses three major campuses in Metro Vancouver– two in New Westminster (Royal Avenue and Anvil Tower) and one in Coquitlam. Considering the campus, it is flourished with all facilities and amenities required by the student to learn. The college has a huge library with books and DVDs, articles, research that can guide the students. Also, it has an Open Repository, DOOR, which provides a collection of research and creative assets of the college. The campus has a student union group for students to execute all purposes given by the college.

Some of the notable alumni of the Douglas college involve poet Elizabeth Bachinsky-published famous collection like Curio, Home of Sudden Service, God of Missed Connections, author Carleigh Baker for short story collection Bad Endings, businessman Frank Guistra, Daniel Igali- Gold medallist wrestler in Olympic, actor Adrian Holmes, and author Sky Lee.
