East Tennessee State University, often called ETSU, opened in 1911 as East Tennessee State Normal University. After expanding the range of courses and obtaining university status, the university adopted its current name in 1963. It is located in Johnson City, Tennessee and is a public university. Although it is part of the Tennessee State University and community college system, the university is still managed by the institutional board of Trustees. The university currently offers more than 140 undergraduate and graduate programs in the fields of arts and sciences, education, business, public and allied health, nursing as well as applied science and technology, and nearly 40 online programs.

Campus Life

The ETSU’s scenic campus is located in Johnson, Tennessee, where Bluegrass Music and Americana are the heart. As an ETSU student, one can experience exhilarating life on the campus of East Tennessee State University! From student activities to sports, students can participate in a variety of ways. Besides, there are more than 220 student organizations and clubs on campus, including 19 Greek chapters. The university’s Buccaneers’ 17 Division I teams participate in the Southern Conference. The university provides various accommodation styles choices for students. Campus residents enjoy access to unlimited dining restaurants and meals without restrictions!

The university has produced notable personalities from almost all walks of life. Some of them include former NFL players Donnie Abraham and Earl Ferrell, country singer Kenny Chesney, attorney and politician Darrell Castle, novelist Steven James, US Federal Judge Herbert Theodore Milburn and many more. Furthermore, the Alumni Association is always dedicated to the success of its alumni, and its services are still provided to them for free for a long time after graduation.
