Established in 1869, Southern Illinois University (SIU), the oldest public research institute in the Southern Illinois University system which is nestled in the rural setting the town of Carbondale, Illinois, USA. It offers a rich array of bachelor, master's and Ph.D. and professional degrees. Campus Life

The campus spreads across 1136-acre land in southern Illinois, also known as ‘Little Egypt’ of the USA. The student recreation centre at SIU is one of the largest in the country with 220,000 square-feet area providing intramurals and fitness activities. Sports facilities include basketball, volleyball, racquetball, handball, tennis, squash courts, weightlifting, martial arts, aerobics, sports activities for the disabled, indoor Olympic-sized swimming pool and many more. Along with this, SIU is renowned for its culturally rich campus life with 400+ registered student organizations home to honor societies, student activity clubs, sports clubs, 11 fraternities, 9 sororities, and others year-round events. There are various on-campus living options available for both undergraduate and graduate students. ‘The Daily Egyptian’ is a multiple award-winning, student-run newspaper, published in the fall and spring semester.
