Passenger numbers also reduced as a consequence of the global economic downturn. It declines the share marginally. Controlling the level of aeronautical revenues has become a necessity due to bad financial health of airlines as well as an increased low-cost carrier sector.

Airports tried extending the merchandise space and variety of shopping opportunities to increase the commercial revenues. Finding new sources within the terminal is considered a unique solution which applied to many airports for the last decades. Consequently, terminals have become much more of a shopping mall and provide entertainment, leisure, wellness and beauty. By this provision, the airports would become the final destination rather than just being a facilitator of access.

Airports provide different kinds of services to the business travellers in the terminal. It includes business centres such as meeting rooms and rooms for special events.
