The Siberian Tiger

The Siberian tiger, also known as the Amur tiger, is a subspecies of tiger native to Russia's the Far East, Northeast China, and possibly North Korea. The Siberian tiger can be found in what was the USSR and seems to live mainly on the lower slopes of mountains. It likes to eat wild boar, wapiti, and moose and will travel long distances in search of food. The male tiger weighs more than the female and is bigger than any other species of tiger. Genetically it is closely linked to the now extinct Caspian tiger. Although brown bears are capable of killing tigers, they make up approximately 8% of their diet. Russian conservatives are trying to protect Siberian tigers because they keep the wolf population under control. In eastern Russia and the surrounding areas, just about 500 Siberian tigers survive.

The declining population is threatened by habitat degradation and poaching, but one group is working to protect the tigers. In comparison to other felids found in the former Soviet Union, the Siberian tiger's fur is moderately thick, coarse, and sparse. The Siberian tiger's summer and winter coats contrast considerably with other subspecies when compared to the extinct westernmost populations. Tigers can run at rates of up to 50 miles per hour, although they can only maintain this speed for brief periods of time. In actuality, only one out of every ten of their hunts will be effective. To survive in the frigid temperature, an adult must consume approximately 9 kg of food every day. They may, however, consume up to 50kg of meat in their one-time meal.

The Siberian tiger has the ability to jump up to 16 feet in the air. For short distances, they may reach speeds of 35 to 40 mph. Even they seem stronger and larger than the lion according to the recent survey. Siberian tigers, commonly named Amur tigers, are the largest tigers, with males weighing up to 660 pounds and reaching lengths of up to 10 feet from nose to tail.
