PTE Essay Writing Sample Questions

Sample Question 1

Some of the methods used in advertising are unethical and unacceptable in today’s society. To what extent do you agree with this view?

Millions of companies produce billions of products and advertisement has become an indispensable factor in selling those products in the market, but the company’s greed for money made the content of the advertisement inappropriate. Thus, I agree that the advertisement strategies used nowadays are unacceptable. This essay will analyse how the advertisements are:

Firstly, it is widely accepted that some of the advertisement telecasts have illicit content which is inappropriate for juveniles. For instance, models for deodorant or soap advertisements wear inappropriate attire to expose their bodies. Many experts believe that this type of ad will influence children’s behaviour negatively. Thus it is clear that some advertisements aired have sexuality.

Secondly, some companies provide wrong and false information to the consumer upfront, which I consider to be unethical. For instance, real estate advertisements often exaggerate things like, the land is located just 10 minutes drive from the airport, schools, colleges and hospitals are very close, they also provide information like all amenities are free. But in pragmatic cognizance, those were not true. Thus it is evident that companies provide misleading information.

To conclude, advertisements telecast are inappropriate and have unethical information, which is increasing every day. Hence, I am in consummate accord with the topic statement. The government has to take corrective measures to censor the content of the advertisement before it is aired.

Sample Question 2

Pros and Cons of extreme/adventure sports

Extreme sports are activities that are perceived to have a high level of inherent danger. The thrill and excitement from these adventure sports are what draws many to participate in these kinds of sports. This essay will elucidate some of the advantages and disadvantages of extreme sports

Firstly, extreme sports are one of the ways to address many health issues and help to stay fit. Being an intense form of workout, they play a therapeutic role in healing psychological disorders along with physical fitness. The participants in adventure sports experience a surge of adrenaline which raises the feeling of euphoria. This feeling of pleasure is what the participants seek unlike in usual competitive sports where exhilaration is driven by winning medals.

Secondly, the experience of extreme sports puts the participants out of their comfort zone and is often done in conjunction with adventure travelling. This permits them to explore secret and new spots all over the world, one can also soak in different cultures of different places.

On the flip side, extreme sports by nature are conducive to fatalities, severe injuries and even risk of life, hence require rigorous training and even licences to avoid casualties. Another detrimental factor is the high cost involved in the safety equipment, these sports have designed venues for the participants to hone their skills which are not affordable by everybody, hence some people use private and public properties and do not abide by conformity which leads to trouble with the law.

To conclude, every game involves some sort of risk. Hence, being diligent and extra cautious in safety measures, the pros far outweigh the cons.
