How to score in the PTE Reorder Paragraph?

PTE reorder paragraph is the third question type in the PTE reading section. It tests your English comprehension i.e.coherence and cohesion skills. In reorder paragraph PTE you get a jumbled paragraph of about 150 words and you need to rearrange it to form a correct meaningful sequence. There will be 2 panels in the PTE test screen. The left side of the panel consists of jumbled paragraphs and the right side is an empty panel. You should drag and drop the correct sentences in the order.

In the PTE reading section, you may expect 2 or 3 re-order paragraph questions. Each correct sequence is awarded with 1 mark and there is no negative marking in re order paragraph PTE scoring. How to Approach the Reorder Paragraph PTE in the Right Way?

Before attempting to sort the reorder paragraphs PTE, you should approach the questions right way as stated below.

• The first and foremost step is to identify the lead paragraph. 
• The leading paragraph should be a standalone sentence, which conveys the whole context independently. 
• The lead sentence will not start with they / this / for example / but / another/However/nevertheless. 
• Once you have fixed the first paragraph, the second paragraph should add information to the first one and link with the previous paragraph. 
• Search for any order sequence words like Firstly, Finally, Secondly, etc to determine the sequence of sentences.
• The last paragraph should conclude the whole information and should add value to the previous paragraphs.

Tips & Tricks to Score High in PTE Academic Reorder Paragraph

Go through all sentences

At first go through all the questions and get the main essence of the topic. This can be achieved by reading English newspapers everyday as it increases your reading speed and accuracy and better understanding of any article.

Decide on the topic sentence

The topic sentence is the first or the focus sentence. Identify the opening sentence of the topic or main idea. The first sentence doesn’t start with a pronoun and sentences which has linking words are also not the topic sentence. 

Find the logical order

Once you have fixed the topic sentence, find the obvious order sequence. Analyze the vocabulary and grammar keywords to find the link between ideas in sentences. You can use linking words like (another, additionally, therefore), articles like (a, an, the), reference words like (this, that, they), and time sequence words like (Initially, Lastly, eventually, etc) to find the order of the paragraph. And finally, decide the concluding sentence too. 

Rule out!

Trial and error is always the best option to solve the reorder paragraph questions. Make a few combinations of sentences and rule out the combinations that don't fit together. To recheck your paragraph, re-read it a few times if possible. By this, you can make sure that the flow of the paragraph is logical and fix any errors.

Practise makes perfect
