IELTS speaking part 3 - Describe a Piece of International News Follow Up Questions

Read the follow-up questions of “describe a piece of international news” given below. In this part, your ability to express and justify your opinions will be assessed. Make sure to practice well to complete the test within 4-5 minutes.

1. What is your newspaper reading style?

When I am starting out, I will skim through the headlines. If any one of the headlines interests me, I delve into it deeply. When I am reading an article or a piece of news, I relate it to my life. I would like to think about how it could influence my lifestyle. Or, how it could change the basic framework of our society.

2. Do you think reading international news is important?

Yes, I think knowing about social and financial events in other nations is necessary in this contemporary world. We are living in the era of globalisation, and nations and economies are connected with each other. So, the crisis occurring in other countries could also cause problems in our nation. So, being aware of international news will be really useful.

3. How do people get to know about news in your country?

Older people mostly consume news by reading newspapers since it becomes almost part of their life. And youngsters consume news through the internet and social media sites. News channels also have social media accounts. A vast number of people follow them in order to know the news instantly.

4. What do you think about how people get their news in the future?

In the 21st century, humans have countless technological devices at their disposal. Reading newspapers and watching the news on television is slowly disappearing. They are moving towards digital devices to consume news. So, I believe that in the future, people will mostly depend entirely on the internet and social media sites for news.

5. Do you think the news that you have described impacts the world? If yes, then how?

Yes, I believe that the problems that are embedded in the news can create various consequences for the world. For example, global warming, as the name implies, is a global problem. It affects all parts of the world, if we don’t keep the temperature at a moderate level, then it will bring out adverse effects.

6. What would happen if there is no news at all in the world?

If we are all just idle, the news is not necessary. But, to function in society, the news is necessary. To function, we have to know what is happening around us and what could happen in the future. News captures what is happening around the world. So, we can orient ourselves in society with our help. This is the reason why fake news disorients and causes disturbances.
