Today, I would like to talk about an old object which is kept in our family, and that is a 24 karat gold necklace.

My great-grandmother received it as a gift from her mother-in-law and it has always been in the family. My grandmother and mother both wear it now. My grandmother and mother take turns wearing it now. My mother's daughter-in-law will receive it as a later inheritance.

It has been a part of our home for a long time, and during that time it has brought us much happiness and togetherness.

Last but not the least, it can be said that this idol is quite precocious and costly. But, most importantly it has helped us keep in touch with God and has helped us overcome every hurdle of life.

So many of life's most meaningful mementos come in the shape of gifts from those we love, or from our ancestors themselves in the form of heritage and blessings to be treasured for all time.

What is the object?
My grandfather's bed is one of the few heirlooms that we've retained in the family for generations. When my grandfather moved from the country to the big city, he brought along a few personal items, including this bed. It's a single bed, but the drawers have been put to good use for storing miscellaneous items.

Where did your family get it from?
It's a bright sunshine yellow with a blue pattern and a small wooden stick-looking item on the side of its head. Everyone can sit in perfect comfort on this bed. We estimate that the year of construction for this bed was 1980. It's not only cumbersome because it's made of solid wood but also quite durable.

The idiom "old is gold" describes the value of things that are well-established. With each passing hour, there are fresh innovations and styles to discover. People of principle and a touch of nostalgia tend to hold on to things that aren't necessarily useful but are nonetheless worth preserving for posterity's sake. Books, silverware, lamps, furnishings, jewellery, postage stamps, and even cars are just some examples of the kinds of things that are kept for safekeeping.

What is the object?
 I'd like to tell you about a candlestick telephone from the Middle Ages that has been in my family for generations.

Where did your family get it from?
My great grandfather owned this house. A candlestick telephone was only available to him because he was the village chief. My grandpa facilitated communication between rural communities and their urban relatives in an effort to spur urban growth. Everybody he met found him to be a humble and affable man.

How long has it been in your family?
The same telephone has been in use for quite some time, but in today's more advanced era, people have abandoned landlines and cordless phones in favour of smaller, more portable devices known as smart phones.

Conclusion
Having a telephone in the home was a luxury at the time, and I consider it a great honour that my family has used telephones ever since they were first invented.

1. Which do you think are better, old things or new things?
I believe that the Jewellery from bygone eras often featured more intricate and unique designs that are impossible to recreate today. When it comes to technological devices, newer is definitely better.

2. As well as family photographs, what are some other things that people keep in their family for a long time?
Some people hold on to their grandmother's ring for as long as they hold on to family photographs. Numismatics is a hobby enjoyed by some, in which participants seek out and collect various types of historical coins.

3. In your culture, what sorts of things do people often pass down from generation to generation? (Why?)
Jewellery is a treasured possession in my culture and is often handed down through the generations. In the same way, some clothing items are passed down from one generation to the next. I have a stole with traditional Punjabi embroidery that was made by my great-grandmother. This stole has since become a staple in my wardrobe, accompanying me to all manner of formal family events where I am guaranteed to garner numerous compliments.

4. Why do you think people keep these things?
These relics serve as reminders of happier times in people's lives. These items are also emblematic of our customs and heritage. Some of their memories are wistful and longing for the past.

5. What are the benefits (= what is the value/what is the importance) of keeping some old things in the family?
Things with age have a lot of value. Their value is unfathomable. They make you long for older but precious moments. They force us to recall those times with renewed emotion.

6. Do you think it’s good to recall the past?
I agree that it's beneficial to reflect on the past. This is why researching one's ancestry has become so fashionable. One must be careful not to let this become an unhealthy preoccupation. No one should go to great lengths and expense in trying to piece together history.

7. When it comes to heirlooms, do you plan to pass any of them down through the generations?
Indeed, If I am blessed with such an item, I will treasure it for the rest of my life, regardless of how long my family has kept it.
