Fashion IELTS Speaking Part 1 - Introduction and Interview

Examiner: What type of clothes do you like to wear ?

Jack: I prefer to wear casual clothes. A pair of jeans and a t-shirt is enough for me. I am not a person who follows the latest fashion trends. And, I wear formal clothes for some special occasions.

Examiner: What kind of clothes do people in your country usually wear?

Max: I am living in a country where you mostly find hot climate. So, people wear light and cotton clothes. Mens wear cotton shirts and short pants. And, women mostly wear sarees.

Examiner: How important is fashion to you ?

Natalia: I am not focused on fashion much. I prefer to wear a suitable outfit. And,  I choose to wear handcrafted clothes.

Examiner: What kind of dress do you dislike ?

Alfred: Generally, I don’t like to wear eccentric clothes. And, I prefer normal jeans compared to distressed jeans.

Examiner: Do you think people behave differently in different kinds of clothes?

Carol: No, but I do think that people select dress based on the context. For example: If someone is going to play a sport, then they will choose sportswear. And, if they go to a party, then they will wear their glad rags to be well-dressed.

Examiner: What kind of clothes do people wear to work in your country?

Kathy: In some organisations, there is a fixed uniform to wear. In other organisations, they allow casual clothes.

Describe someone you know who dresses well

You should say,

  • Who are they ?
  • How do you know them ?
  • What kind of clothes do they wear ?
  • Why do you like the way they dress?

George: I would like to talk about my childhood friend David. Now, he is working as a software engineer in a prestigious company. I have seen him as a fashion icon. Sometimes, we friends tell him to participate in a fashion show.

When I joined a school, I sat beside him. From the school days, I knew him. Gradually, we became best friends. He had a good sense of style at that time itself. His dressing style is incomparable. His father wears old fashioned yet timeless.

I saw him wearing a variety of clothes. Sometimes, he says to me that he is dressing to kill people. Mostly, he prefers trendy and top-notch clothes made by high-end designers. One time, I saw his wardrobe, which was full of pricey vintage clothes. Whenever we are shopping he selects dresses with designer labels. He loves different styles and to mix and match the clothes. Other than those luxurious and stylish clothes, he likes trench coats, jackets, waistcoats, pyjamas. He is concealing but I am sure he is a slave to fashion.

For me, he is the height of fashion. Simply, I like his dressing style since he has a unique taste. It reflects in his bespoke dresses. He is not attached to one form of style, but many styles. Specifically, I liked him when he wore classic style clothes.

Fashion IELTS Speaking Part 3 - Follow Up Questions

Examiner: How important are clothes and fashion to you ? (Why/Why not?)?

Henry: I focus on the quality and beauty of the clothes. Mostly, I prefer to buy off the peg and lower priced clothes. I followed fashion trends but I felt that I am a fashion victim. So, I moved away from chasing the trends.

Examiner: How different are the clothes you wear now from those you wore 10 years ago?

Michael: Previously, I was not interested in even buying clothes. I wear clothes that my father bought for me. But, now I am like a clothes horse. I buy lots of chic garments. And, I love to buy clothes that are embedded with embroidery work. I even spend too much time on shoe displays

Examiner: What do you think the clothes we wear say about us?

Tomas: It's not easy to say the individual’s personality by his clothing choices. But, we can make an approximate assumption. For example, if someone does not find it problematic to wear hand-me-down clothes, then we could say he or she is not exceedingly attracted to clothes. If a person keeps up with the latest fashions, we can say that he wants to be unique or a centre of attention.
