In the IELTS speaking cue card section the examiner will provide you with a task card, more commonly known as an IELTS cue card prompt, outlining a specific topic on which candidates must speak. The primary aim is to assess a candidate’s ability to talk at length on a given subject. You will be given 1 minute to prepare your notes and the examiner will ask you to talk for 1-2 minutes, over all this part lasts for 3-4 minutes. Followed by the IELTS speaking part 2, there comes a follow-up question round.

Model answer 1 - Describe a person who always has interesting ideas or opinions

Introduction

Ideas are an opinion that someone offers you about what you can do or how you can act in a particular situation. Here I am going to share about a person who always has interesting ideas or opinions. 
 
Who is the person?

The individual I am referring to is an intriguing person who happens to be one of my uncles. His name is Mr. Arjun, holds the position of an auditor at a company. Every time I had the opportunity to interact with him, he would consistently share valuable financial ideas and advice with me.

How do you know the person?

Mr. Arjun was a close friend of my father, and I have known him since I was a child. His ideas on financial matters, such as managing household finances or providing assistance with money management, are truly remarkable. 

What kind of interesting ideas/opinions has made you consider him/her for this question?

A few days ago, my father and I had a pleasant chat with my uncle. During the conversation, my father asked for his thoughts on the stock market. My uncle shared his opinion and advice on investing in the stock market. The ideas which he gave related to investment in the stock market are really valuable. 

Explain why you think his/her ideas are interesting?

His ideas and opinions regarding financial matters are incredibly impressive, with each one being truly one-of-a-kind. Whenever my father has doubts about financial management in our business, he always turns to him for advice without any hesitation. He is always willing to share his opinions, advice, and ideas.
 
Conclusion

One thing I really appreciate about him is his attentive nature towards others' words and his ability to delve deep into discussions. It made others feel comfortable while discussing their ideas and concerns freely with him.

Model answer 2 - Describe a person who always has interesting ideas or opinions

Introduction

In our everyday lives, we encounter numerous individuals who offer advice or share their ideas. However, there is one person whose advice and ideas have consistently proven to be valuable to us. Today, I would like to talk about this individual who consistently presents intriguing and thought-provoking ideas.
 
Who is the person?

Let me introduce Vaishu, who happens to be my closest companion. Although originally from Delhi, she relocated to Chennai during her early years alongside her family. Our paths crossed during college. Despite hailing from distinct regions and attending different schools, we instantly formed an unbreakable bond. Vaishu possesses a tall, slender, and fair appearance.

How do you know the person?

She is a fellow student from my college. We initially crossed paths during our enrollment and quickly developed a strong friendship. Not only is she highly skilled in sports and dance, but she also excels academically as the top student in our class. As time went on, our families also grew close.

What kind of interesting ideas/opinions has made you consider him/her for this question?

What I find most admirable about her is her ability to offer ideas and opinions. One day, when I was unsure about which course to take during my semester, she quickly suggested several courses that were more effective than others. Additionally, she gave me precise information about each course.

Explain why you think his/her ideas are interesting?

From my time in college until now, she has been the sole individual I turn to whenever I encounter any kind of difficulty. Not only does she provide me with exceptional suggestions or viewpoints regarding my troubles, but she has also resolved numerous issues for me, whether they be academic, financial, or personal.

Conclusion

To be honest, Vaishu is extremely valuable to me. It is because of her that I am now in a good position in my career. I feel amazing for being her friend and I am grateful to have such a friend, thanks to God.

Introduction

Receiving guidance from friends, family, or coworkers can provide the necessary motivation to overcome a challenge or break free from a stagnant situation. Whether it's facing difficulties at work, seeking career guidance, or seeking input on choosing a new bedroom color, I will now discuss an individual who offers intriguing ideas or opinions to me.

Who is the person?

Let me introduce Riya, who is my sister and serves as my supporter, mentor, and source of ideas, and has always been there for me, despite being younger. She has consistently provided guidance whenever I faced any difficulties. Additionally, her suggestions and advice have proven to be incredibly valuable and impressive.

How do you know the person?

My sister and I were separated when she got married, but she is still an important part of my life. She works as a professor in a college. Despite being physically apart, we begin and end each day with a phone call. Whenever I need help or advice, she is always the first person I turn to.

What kind of interesting ideas/opinions has made you consider him/her for this question?

I have a clear memory of a specific event where she presented an amazing idea to me, which had a profound impact on my life. This occurred a year ago when we were casually talking, and I mentioned my desire to begin a teaching career at one of the renowned schools in our vicinity.

Explain why you think his/her ideas are interesting?

As mentioned earlier, her recommendation to pursue this career path has proven to be remarkably advantageous. I believe that it is solely because of her idea that I am now in a superior position in my profession. Moreover, with her guidance, my career has been progressing exceptionally well.

Conclusion

I felt fortunate to have a sister who was friendly and supportive like her. She was the only person who consistently stood by my side through both the good and bad times.

Model answer 4 - Describe a person who always has interesting ideas or opinions

Introduction

An individual's opinion or idea is shaped by their past experiences, work methods, expertise, and more. The worth of an opinion or idea lies in its ability to offer a solution that may not be perceived in the same manner by others. Here I am going to share about a person who gave an interesting idea/opinion.  

Who is the person?

Every individual has someone special in their life, and for me, that special person is my paternal grandfather. He is currently 75 years old and known for his strong work ethic. He is highly recognized and respected in our village.

How do you know the person?

Since he is my grandfather, I have known him since I was born. He is extremely kind and down-to-earth towards everyone. He holds a high position in the highways department and is also a farmer. Even at the age of seventy, he works diligently. He starts his day early in the morning by going to the field and then heads to his office. He serves as a great inspiration to us.

What kind of interesting ideas/opinions has made you consider him/her for this question?

I had a pleasant conversation with him one day, during which I expressed my confusion regarding my gardening tasks such as which fertilizer to use and where to purchase it. In response, he shared his own experiences and suggestions about what he uses in his garden. His ideas were incredibly helpful to me.

Explain why you think his/her ideas are interesting?

My grandfather, who used to work as a farmer and had extensive knowledge in gardening and cultivating plants, decided to retire from harvesting land as he grew older. Nowadays, he spends his time at home resting. Every time I visit him, he never fails to share his experiences, such as his work in the fields, the equipment he used, and tips on plant care

Conclusion

Personally, I believe that seeking advice or solutions from older people is always preferable to trying to figure things out on your own. They can provide you with precise solutions or ideas based on their own experiences. 

IELTS speaking part 3 - Describe a person who always has interesting ideas or opinions follow up questions.

In part 3 of the speaking test the examiner will ask further questions which are connected to the topics discussed in part 2. We have given some follow up questions related to “Describe a person who always has interesting ideas or opinions”. It will help you for your major exams.

Yes, of course I choose the proper people for the correct ideas or opinions if I need, but when it comes to any problem solving, it is very difficult to choose the proper person because at the time of discussion with a number of people, everyone gives ideas according to their thinking level and it become a very big task to select one idea.

2. Can we solve real-life problems?

In my view, finding solutions to real-life problems can be quite challenging. It requires us to determine the root cause of the problem and think creatively in order to find a solution. At times, we may tackle these problems with the help of others, while other times we may face them alone.

This person would establish a setting where people feel at ease expressing their thoughts. Additionally, he actively listens to what others have to say and genuinely responds to their words. As a result, this creates an atmosphere where others feel comfortable discussing their ideas and concerns freely.

This individual consistently possesses the self-assurance to engage in challenging situations or differing opinions during discussions, instead of immediately disregarding opposing viewpoints. They consistently make an effort to comprehend the underlying rationale behind these perspectives.
