In the IELTS speaking cue card section the examiner will provide you with a Task Card, more commonly known as an IELTS cue card. The cue card will have the topic on which you have to talk about. You will be given 1 minute to prepare your notes and the examiner will ask you to talk for 1-2 minutes, over all this part lasts for 3-4 minutes. Followed by the IELTS speaking part 3 comes, that is the follow-up question round.

Model answer 1 - Describe a person who works on space exploration

Introduction:

Space exploration is a highly technical field, and a large percentage of people do not have an idea about it. As I have immense interest in space exploration I always follow the space exploration news, or see videos related to it. This time I had a chance to meet a person who works on space exploration. 

Who the person is?

He is none other than my uncle, Raghul. He is a 30-year-old man who works as a photographer at NASA, the leading space agency. He began his career in NASA when he was 27 years old, starting as an assistant photographer and eventually earning a promotion as the head of the photography team.

How you know about him/her?

I know about him because he is one of my father's friends. My uncle and my father were classmates during their school days, and my father often talks about their close bond and childhood memories. A few months ago, when he visited his hometown, I had the opportunity to meet him in person and to have a great conversation.

What exactly he/her does?

As a photographer at NASA, his main role is to capture photos at various stages of space projects to document their progress. He works closely with engineers and scientists to photograph significant moments in the project, such as discoveries, events, or launches. His documentation also includes taking photographs of the project's team members, serving as a record of NASA's activities. He also shared some information about NASA's current project called Dragonfly, which aims to send a robotic rotorcraft to the surface of Titan, Saturn's largest moon. The mission is planned to be launched in July 2028 and arrive in 2034, with a total cost of $3.35 billion.

How do you feel about it?

I was so proud of my uncle and his work in NASA. I think his hardwork is the only reason for his success. Why? Because I am saying this means I have been seeing him since my childhood, everytime he used to collect new updates about NASA or ISRO and learn about the ongoing project of NASA or ISRO. and Now he was in some particular position in NASA and it fills me with pride.  Also I wish that the upcoming project of NASA should remain successful. 

Conclusion:

I was very happy to meet him and also I have gained some knowledge about space exploration from our conversation. As working in space exploration is my dream, I hope that I will also be there in the future.

Model answer 2 - Describe a person who works on space exploration

Introduction:

Being a lover of astronomy, I have a strong interest in expanding my knowledge about spacecrafts, space-related activities, and so on. I constantly strive to stay updated on the latest news and developments in NASA and space exploration. To achieve this, I often turn to my cousin, who is involved in the field of space exploration.

Who the person is?

The person whom I am going to discuss is Ramesh, who is employed as a computer engineer at NASA. After completing his higher education, he was given the opportunity to work with NASA, the leading space agency. Recently, we were able to have a conversation over the phone after a long time. 

How you know about him/her?

Ramesh is my cousin, and we both attended the same school. Since we are the same age, we share a close friendship in addition to being cousins. Although we are currently separated due to our respective careers, we are both content knowing that we are pursuing our dream jobs. 

What exactly he/her does?

Ramesh is working as a computer engineer at NASA. During our conversation, he mentioned that his role involves designing and developing computer systems for use in spacecraft. He is responsible for analyzing the computational tasks required for a space project and then recommending the necessary software and instruments to meet those requirements.

How do you feel about it?

I am delighted to witness him chasing his aspirations and working in his ideal environment. It brings me pride to see someone I care about succeed, and I hope he continues to achieve even more. 

Conclusion:

Despite being physically apart, we stayed connected through phone calls and maintained constant communication to support each other's endeavors. Moreover, we often share and discuss our future plans.

Model answer 3 - Describe a person who works on space exploration

Introduction:

There are numerous scientists and well-funded research programs dedicated to the ongoing exploration of space. In this discussion, I will focus on an individual whom I am acquainted with.

Who the person is?

In this discussion, I will be discussing Rathanya, who is a friend of my sister. Rathanya completed her primary education in her hometown New Delhi. However, she had to move to Pune for her Higher Secondary education due to her father's job transfer. Since then, Rathanya and my sister have been best friends. 

How you know about him/her?

I know Rathanya through my sister, as they were classmates in school and later attended the same college but pursued different courses. After finishing her studies, Rathanya had the opportunity to work with a team at  ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation)

What exactly he/her does?

When we talked, Rathanya explained that she works as a Project Director for the mission called Aditya-L1. Aditya L1 is a spacecraft which was launched by PSLV-C57 on September 2, 2023 from SDSC SHAR(Sathish Dhawan Space Centre SHAR). The main objective of Aditya L1 is to observe the dynamics of the sun’s Chromosphere and Corona. Now the current status of Aditya L1 is orbiting at about 1.5 million Km from Earth in a hola orbit around the Lagrange point 1(L1) between the Earth and the Sun. 

How do you feel about it?

I was very happy that she was a part of India’s prestigious mission. Whenever we meet, I used to express my pride to her and she used to explain details about missions that she can share outside. Witnessing her actually pursuing her career at ISRO brings me greater joy and I am learning so much about her.

Conclusion:

Due to our busy work schedules, we rarely had the opportunity to meet up. However, despite the infrequency of our meetings, our connection is strong and beautiful. We share details about our work and personal lives, and every time we do meet, it becomes a wonderful day.

IELTS speaking part 3 -  Describe a person who works on space exploration follow up questions.

In part 3 of the IELTS speaking test, the given time limit for this section was 4-5 minutes. We have given some followup questions related to “ Describe a person who works on space exploration”. It will help you for your major exams.

1. What do you think fascinates humans about outer space?

Different individuals have varying interests in space, such as admiring the endless array of stars or observing the movement of clouds. People are always intrigued by the unknown, which is why they find outer space fascinating.

2. Do you think that’s why some stories about space travel have been so ‘imaginative’?

Certainly, there are numerous movies and stories about space travel that exhibit a high level of imagination. This is because some directors and writers create their own creative interpretations or visuals. Consequently, people are drawn to these imaginative portrayals.

3. How do you think people’s attitudes toward space exploration have changed since the first Moon landings?

The first Moon landing significantly altered people's perceptions of space exploration. Initially, many individuals were unaware of the possibility of such an achievement and how humans could land on the Moon. This event sparked a greater interest in understanding and exploring the unknown. Additionally, organizations like ISRO and NASA have been working tirelessly to fulfill people's dreams, further fueling curiosity and enthusiasm for space exploration.

4. To what extent do you think governments will continue to fund projects in search of life on other planets?

I strongly believe that governments should never cease funding space exploration. In fact, I believe they should substantially increase their investment in this field. The long-term benefits of space exploration far outweigh any associated costs.
