Gulmarg: Describe a Place You Visited on Vacation - Model answer 1
Introduction & Which is the place?
Let me tell you about my time in Gulmarg. It's important for everyone to take a break every once in a while. One of my older brothers has gone on a trip to Gulmarg. My brother and I chose Gulmarg because we've heard nothing but praise for it.
Where this place was?
The fact that Gulmarg offers skiing has contributed to its popularity as a tourist destination in India. This settlement may be found on the Pir Panjal Range, which lies in the western part of the Himalayas. Gulmarg is located in the middle of the snow-covered, towering Himalayas and is surrounded by flower-filled meadows, deep hillsides, and evergreen forested valleys. It is also home to the second-highest Gondola ride in the world. This town is a popular tourist destination due to its lovely setting, long-standing traditions, and pleasant climate, all of which contribute to the town's overall appearance.
When did you go there?
In the month of December, on a Sunday morning, we arrived at our destination. Gulmarg is a popular tourist destination that offers visitors of many ages and interests.
How did you go there?
We live in Mumbai, which is a forty-hour drive from Gulmarg. We decided to fly from Mumbai to Srinagar rather than driving ourselves to Gulmarg. The flight from Mumbai to Srinagar took about two hours. As soon as our plane touched down in Srinagar, we wasted no time in making the arrangements necessary to hire a cab to drive us to Gulmarg. On the other side, the journey from Srinagar involved a car ride that lasted for more than 90 minutes.
What did you do there?
During the course of our vacation, we rode a cable car up to Kongdori, which is linked to the breathtaking meadows of Khilanmarg (3 km one way). The second and higher stations provide access to Alpather Lake, which is located at a high altitude and remains frozen for the majority of the year. In addition, we had a lot of fun skiing down the steep and extended slopes that were found in the snowy mountain ranges.
Conclusion
All that we know about Gulmarg, including how much tourists adore the surrounding landscape, and following my recent trip there, I can say that I wholeheartedly concur with those tourists' praises.
Maldives: Describe a Place You Visited on Vacation - Model answer 2
Introduction & Which is the place?
I want to share about my trip to the Maldives. People typically vacation in Northern India, but once I finished my exams, I convinced my family to take a trip outside of the country instead. I made the decision to travel to the Maldives, after doing some research on the country and learning about the best sites to see there. Because the location and reviews of the tourists left such an incredible impression on me, my parents and I planned a trip to the Maldives.
Where this place was?
The Maldives is a nation-state consisting of a group of islands located in the middle of the Indian Ocean. It is located to the southwest of both Sri Lanka and India. Furthermore, it is the smallest country in Asia.
When did you go there?
After I had finished all of my exams in February, my family and I made the choice to spend my birthday in the Maldives during the last week of March as the sky is mostly clear yet has a good temperature, and there hasn't been much or any rain. This decision came about after I had completed my exams.
How did you go there?
There is no other way to get to the Maldives besides by air, thus those who are planning their trip should book a flight. The major airport in the country is located in Malé, and it features a direct service to India. Therefore, we made the decision to board a flight of around six hours that connected Ahmedabad, New Delhi, and the Maldives.
What did you do there?
For someone who lives for new experiences as I do, the Maldives is a dream destination. We participated in a variety of water sports while we were there, including kayaking, fishing, parasailing, jet skiing, and snorkelling. Because the water was so clear, we were able to see very well into it. The spa was the nicest part about our trip to the Maldives since it helped us relax, made us feel more energized, and improved our ability to appreciate the natural surroundings.
Conclusion
The only drawback was that transportation, food, and accommodation were all extremely pricey. However, the time we spend in the embrace of mother nature is something that needs to be preserved.
Shimla: Describe a Place You Visited on Vacation - Model answer 3
Introduction & Which is the place?
Shimla. I would like to discuss my most recent summer gateway. Last summer, I went to Shimla with my friends. There was so much to talk about this magnificent hill station, and travelling with friends always makes a wonderful experience. We travelled by train and it took about 7 to 8 hours to reach Shimla from our destination.
Where this place was?
Shimla is located in India and is the capital of Himachal Pradesh. It is a cozy hill station with numerous restaurants, lodges, and churches. It is the favourite destination for many tourists.
When did you go there?
We went to Shimla in December during Christmas in 2023. We went to Mall Road in Shimla on Christmas Eve and rejoiced ourselves.
How did you go there?
Since we reside in Delhi, we drove an 8-hour road trip to Shimla via car. All our friends can drive, and this made our travel enjoyable. On the way, we enjoyed sceneries of beautiful hill stations, and also we rolled the windows down to feel the cool breezes of the hills. The drive was memorable and also we captured our best memories and posted them on social media.
What did you do there?
After we reached Shimla, we visited the famous Jhakoo and Tara Devi temples. I was thrilled after seeing towering and verdant pine trees, and snow-capped peaks of distant mountains. I have gone river rafting, and participated in snow-related activities like skating. What delighted me the most was however the abundance of springs and streams. We had a wonderful time enjoying the snow. Apart from this, we went shopping at Lakkar Bazaar, enjoyed forest camping in Shimla’s Junga, and ate a variety of pizzas at Shimla’s famous Italian restaurant.
Conclusion
Lastly, it was an excellent place where we organized a short and enjoyable outing with my loved ones.
Mumbai: Describe a Place You Visited on Vacation - Model answer 4
Introduction & Which is the place?
I have been to a wide range of places throughout my life due to my passion for exploring new places. Today I'm going to talk about a destination that I visited when I was on vacation. Mumbai is the name of the city, and it stands as the state capital of the state of Maharashtra in India.
Where this place was?
The city of Mumbai serves as India's financial hub. In addition to having a deep natural harbour, it is located on the Konkan coastline, which is in India's west coast.
When did you go there?
It was decided that the trip to Mumbai would take place in the month of January, which is wintertime in Mumbai. Because of the pleasant weather, this was the ideal time of year for going on trips and sightseeing.
How did you go there?
The city of Ahmedabad, where I am currently located, is located in the Indian state of Gujarat and is around 500 kilometres away from Mumbai. When going such a long distance, we usually choose to go by either an airplane or a train as our mode of transportation of choice. On the other hand, because of the covid scenario, we chose to travel in our own vehicle rather than taking public transportation this time around.
What did you do there?
We went to the Gateway of India and then took a ferry to the Elephanta Caves, which are one of the three attractions in the city that are listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. After that, we went for a stroll along the seaside drive in the evening. The following day, we went to the Haji Ali Dargah, which is a mosque that was constructed in the middle of the Arabian Sea. Colaba Causeway was also where we did some shopping for members of our family, and I took a ride on the local train and admired the architectural beauty of Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus.
Conclusion
Unbelievably, it turned out to be a wonderful experience. I was hoping to stay for a longer period of time, but sadly we had other commitments that had to be fulfilled. If it's at all possible, I'd really like to visit Mumbai again.
IELTS speaking part 3 - Describe a Place You Visited on Vacation - follow-up questions
The cue card topic “Describe a Place You Visited on Vacation” IELTS speaking part 3 will begin with the topic from part 2 but expand on it to make it more general and complex. Here are some examples of possible follow-up questions the examiner may ask you.
1. What are some popular attractions that people like to visit in your country?
Indian tourism has boomed in recent years, many popular landmarks making it a profitable industry for the country's elite. Most of the country's tourism attractions are suitable for families, and the country itself has a rich history spanning multiple time periods. The majority of India's most popular tourist locations may be broken down into the categories of shrines, forts, parks, restaurants, and museums.
2. Do old people and young people like to go to different places for vacation?
In my opinion, each person is entitled to their own opinion. Where they want to go, although in general, older people like to see temples and parks, while younger people are more interested in trying out unique activities connected to the places they visit. Extreme sports like parachuting and Trekking are popular.
3. What do old people and young people think about when making a travel plan?
I find that the elderly are primarily concerned with the bottom line and their level of ease. They are modest people who seek the highest level of trip comfort for the smallest investment of money. While kids care only about fulfilling a task. They are mostly motivated by a desire for excitement and adventure.
4. How do people know to get to a new place?
The internet is just one of several resources available to the general public for learning about further places. Numerous social media platforms, word of mouth from friends and family, and professional tour operators help people learn about previously undiscovered destinations.
5. Which one would people enjoy visiting more: museums and other historical sites, or exciting leisure adventures?
According to me, adventure vacations are the latest trend of experiencing vacations. Instead of exploring the beautiful National Park or Sanctuary, getting lost in the surreal mountains is a beautiful experience. If friends or family just want to get the adrenaline flowing and experience success at the end of a vacation, then an adventure trip is exactly what people will prefer.
