Model answer 1 - Describe a product you bought during the sale period

Introduction:

Being shopaholic, I enjoy both online and physical shopping, especially when there are sales or discounts, I like to purchase a variety of cosmetics, accessories, and dresses. Here, I will share my personal experience of buying products during a sale period.

What did you buy?

One item that brought me great joy was a liquid lipstick from Huda Beauty, a popular beauty brand that is known worldwide. I purchased this product about a month ago for my professional needs. As a makeup artist, it is important for me to regularly restock my beauty supplies.

Where did you buy it?

During the Diwali season, there were many sales offers available on various online platforms like Amazon and Flipkart. They announced a discount of up to 50% on the same product. Since this product is quite expensive, I took advantage of this season and bought it from a well-known online shopping website.

Why do you like/dislike it?

I was highly satisfied with the item I bought during the sales, and I believe it was a smart decision to make this purchase at that time. It's important to note that both the beauty brand and the online platform I chose to buy from excelled in meeting their customers' needs. When purchasing items on sale, there is always a concern about them being expired or damaged. However, this brand and online platform made sure to only offer new products during the sales period in order to maintain customer satisfaction.

Conclusion:

Overall, I am very happy and content with this product. I can confidently say that their products are worth buying, as they offer a wide range of high-quality items with satisfactory results. Therefore, I was delighted to purchase this product during the sales period

Model answer 2 - Describe a product you bought during the sale period

Introduction:

Sales are loved by everyone because they offer excellent deals on items that are usually too expensive. In my opinion, sales present the perfect opportunity to buy something that would otherwise be too costly at its regular price. In this article, I will share my personal experience of purchasing products during these sales events.

What did you buy?

I have had many shopping experiences, both online and in physical stores, but typically, I tend to buy things like makeup, clothes, and accessories. However, there was one particular instance that stands out in my memory. It was the first time I bought something significant for my family as a long-term investment. I decided to surprise my father, who is the foundation of our family, by buying a recliner sofa for him.

Where did you buy it?

I searched on online platforms such as Flipkart and Amazon, but even with some discounts, the prices of the products were still above ₹25000. This seemed too expensive for me, so after discussing with my neighbors, my mother and I decided to buy the sofa from a furniture shop in our area.

Why did you like/dislike it?

I liked it because the store I purchased it from is well-known in our city. They recently opened a new branch in our area and were offering discounts to customers for a month. I saw this as a great opportunity to buy the product I wanted, which originally cost around ₹16000. However, due to the opening offer, I was able to get it for around ₹12000 and also received a free side table.

Conclusion:

I was extremely satisfied with the product I purchased, and it was a long-held dream of mine to buy it with my first paycheck. Additionally, I believe I have acquired something beneficial for my parents.

Model answer 3 - Describe a product you bought during the sale period

Introduction:

In my opinion, the sale period is a time when retailers offer reduced prices in order to attract customers or promote their products. Nowadays, online shopping has become more popular among consumers. In this article, I will share my personal experience of buying items during a sale.

What did you buy?

Last year, when I started my higher studies in Computer Engineering in Chennai, I needed a laptop for various academic purposes such as exam practice and presentations. After discussing it with my family, I decided to buy a highly advanced laptop.

Where did you buy it?

Since it was the Diwali season, I searched on online platforms like Amazon and Flipkart, as they usually offer discount deals during festival seasons. However, my father and I found a better option at an office store, so we decided to buy the laptop from one of the top laptop showrooms in our city. They had different offers, such as discounts if we paid with a debit card or other discounts if we used a credit card.

Why do you like/dislike it?

After conversing with the representative at the showroom, we made the decision to make the purchase using a debit card. This was due to the fact that by using a debit card, we were offered a 30% discount, a one-year screen warranty, and some complimentary items such as an extra laptop bag and a wireless mouse. I bought this laptop twelve months ago and have been using it ever since. Up until now, the laptop has demonstrated its worth. It possesses an outstanding battery life and can endure for around seven hours after being fully charged. I am thoroughly content with this product.

Conclusion:

I am confident that it will continue to serve me for many more years, as long as I don't accidentally drop it like I did before. Overall, I am extremely happy and content with my purchase.

IELTS speaking part 3 - Describe a product you bought during the sale period follow up questions.

In part 3 of the speaking test the examiner will ask further questions which are connected to the topics discussed in part 2. We have given some follow up questions related to “Describe a product you bought during the sale period”. It will help you for your major exams.

1. What factors influenced your decision to purchase this particular product during the sale period?

There are various factors that influenced my decision to purchase products during the sale period, such as the features of the product, the reputation of the brand, reviews, pricing, and my personal needs.

2. Can you explain how you found out about the sale, and did it involve any specific marketing or promotional strategies?

To explain how I found out about the sale, I came across it through social messaging apps. I saw an advertisement related to sales or mega discounts in one of my accounts, so I clicked on it. I visited the application and they had a lot of discounts available, so I placed an order.

3. How did the sale period affect your overall shopping experience in terms of the atmosphere, customer service, and product availability?

In terms of the overall shopping experience, the sale period did not have a significant impact on me personally. Because most sales periods are limited to festival seasons like Diwali, Makar Sankranti, and Christmas. Additionally, the shopping experience is not solely dependent on the atmosphere, but it provides good customer service and product availability.

4. In your opinion, what are the advantages and disadvantages of shopping during sale periods, both for consumers and retailers?

In my view, shopping during a sale has both pros and cons for both customers and retailers. The main benefit for customers is that they can buy products at a lower price compared to the original price. On the other hand, retailers benefit from selling a large number of items during discount periods as customers are attracted to discounted products. However, a disadvantage for customers is that they may sometimes end up with damaged or low-quality products. Similarly, retailers face the disadvantage of incurring financial losses due to additional expenses like hiring extra staff, increased marketing efforts, and investing in branded materials during the sale period.

5. Do you think that sale events play a significant role in consumer culture, and if so, how does this impact people’s buying habits and perceptions of value?

Sale events play a significant role in consumer culture as they attract individuals who eagerly anticipate the festival season or discount periods to make purchases for themselves. Additionally, these events have become an opportunity for people to justify buying multiple products at once.
