Describe an activity that waste your time - Sample 1

Introduction:

Time is a precious one and never comes back. Thus it shouldn't be wasted by involving some unnecessary and useless activities. Everyone should know the value of time and planning a perfect and effective day is always in our hands. I sometimes waste my time by indulging in some unnecessary activities.

What is that activity?

I believe in time management but even I used to waste my time by doing some useless things in my day like spending more time watching television. Because of this, my friends and family used to call me a “couch potato”

When do you usually do it?

Whenever I am at home, I always prefer to watch television even if there are no new programs or movies. I got used to it during the corona pandemic days. Finally, I realised that I was ruining my weekends with this bad activity.

What makes you do it?

I always plan to do some worthwhile activity in my spare time. But when I sit in front of the TV, I forget everything and continue watching TV for long hours. I start with my favourite show and continue to spend more time watching random shows, movies, etc.

And explain why you feel it waste your time

Watching some favourite shows or movies sometimes is normal and fine. In fact, the content that shows on television is not real. Obviously, observing unrealistic things for a long time is a waste of time. Moreover, sitting idle in front of the TV and doing nothing risks the health as well as the mind.

Conclusion:

Everything is good when they are within the limit. If we realise it is too much, we should move from that particular activity or place.

Describe an activity that waste your time - Sample 2

Introduction:

People without a smartphone are difficult to find nowadays. In this technological world, we have everything in our hands. Definitely, this is good progress until it becomes an addiction. Though we have an option, we are intentionally spending more time on smartphones.

What is that activity?

Here I would like to reveal one of my useless activities; using a smartphone for a long time for no reason. Due to the plethora of apps, games, and social media platforms, I am addicted to my phone.

When do you usually do it?

Even though I am busy with my work, I automatically check my phone whenever I get pop-up messages, notifications, etc. In my free time, I am always with my phone by playing games, chatting, and scrolling on Instagram.

What makes you do it?

Initially, I started using smartphones to communicate with my distant friends. Later, the use of my smartphone gradually became a part of my life. In fact, I cut back on communicating with my friends and started using other apps and features for a long time.

And explain why you feel it waste your time

I like to use my phone for various reasons, however, I realise that I am wasting too much time on this. Initially, I was very active and interested to connect virtually with everyone. Then, slowly, my interest dropped and started using social media platforms only for checking my news feeds. This ruins more of my time.

Conclusion:

Finally, I realise that I am addicted to my phone which wastes all of my valuable time. So I diverted myself to get rid of this addiction.

Describe an activity that waste your time - Sample 3

Introduction:

Time has the power of changing everything. But many of us are not actually aware of the value of time. Although I strive to make my time more productive, I used to do some silly things that waste my time.

What is that activity?

I've recently developed a strong love for video gaming and am accustomed to it. I play a lot of video games for more than an hour.

When do you usually do it?

Earlier, my cousin brother encouraged me to start playing video games. Then, I started playing video games whenever I had free time. I scheduled a time to play video games later.

What makes you do it?

I initially felt compelled to play video games. But as time went on, I developed a love for playing various video games because I enjoy the stages, concept, and my high score. I was eager to compete against my fellow gamers and earn a high score.

And explain why you feel it waste your time

While playing games, I was having fun. But after a while, I saw that engaging in this worthless activity was squandering my time. I was inactive since I played video games while sitting still.

Conclusion:

Once I understood, I felt really bad about what I had done for a very long time. This is the activity where I spent the most of my time.

Describe an activity that waste your time - Sample 4

Introduction:

It is up to the person to make good use of their time or waste it on unproductive activities. Since we are all human, we are likely to make errors and learn from them. However, one thing we must realise is that time never comes back.

What is that activity?

Thank you for giving this topic. And I would like to talk about my major weakness here. That is spending more time chit chatting with my friends often.

When do you usually do it?

Usually, my friends used to call me when they had something to share. Likewise, I call my friends to share some important news. Later it became a habit. We started calling each other with no reason and chit chatting some random gossip. Also sometimes I used to occasionally hold conference calls with all of my close friends. That wastes most of my time.

What makes you do it?

After relocating to a different city, I began to miss my friends and made the decision to call them to stay in touch. Whenever I find time I prefer to call them to share about my day.

And explain why you feel it waste your time

Connecting with friends is a good thing, but spending too much time on chit chatting is not appreciable. Similarly, I speak for 20-30 minutes in the beginning. Then it extended for more than an hour. Due to this I was unable to do any creative activities. Thus I say this activity wastes my time.

Conclusion:

I consequently started shortening the random phone calls. I made plans for some effective activities. I didn't stop calling my pals, either, instead, I stopped talking about unimportant things and chit-chatting.

IELTS Speaking Part 3: Follow up Questions

Once the candidates complete the cue card task, they are required to answer some follow-up questions based on the cue card topic asked by the examiner. Get some possible questions below based on the topic - Describe an activity that waste your time.

1. How do you balance work and life?

Proper balance of work and life is very important. Plan your time correctly for both professional and personal activities. Imbalance of work and personal life will lead to stress and frustration. Enjoy and live your life, similarly love and do your work.

2. Will you continue doing something when you are aware that it wastes your time?

Definitely No! As I said earlier, watching television for long periods of time is totally a waste. When I realised, I tried to distract myself. But initially I couldn't do much to change this strange behaviour. I was so addicted to changing channels and watching random movies, shows, etc. Then my realisation hit me badly and I pushed myself to get rid of this habit.

3. What kind of things make people pressured?

Everyone wants to live a stress-free and stress-free life. But that doesn't happen to anyone. Because we live in an unpredictable world. We should always expect the unexpected. But we don't. It makes people more pressured when facing tough times. We should always be ready for new challenges in our life.

4. Why do some people refuse to abide by the rules?

There is a saying that all our fingers are not the same size. Likewise, every person is not the same in character and behaviour. There are rules and regulations to control people from a certain limit. However, there are still some who refuse to follow the rules. On the other hand, some follow the rules properly at any cost. Breaking the rules is becoming a rage for some immature people. They need to understand that in reality it is not.

5. Why do some people make plans and fail to follow them?

Most people prefer to use their time wisely and also make their own plans. But only some people execute the same effectively. It is not enough to create a plan, it is important to implement it as planned. In my opinion, the main reason for this is laziness and the next is ignorance of the time value.
