Introduction:
Sociologists define social change as the changes occur over time and often have profound and long-term consequences for society. Here I am going to share about the important social change in my country.
What it was?
Education is one of the primary things for each and every child. It is not only for children in urban areas it is also important for children in rural areas. In those days only 10% of the children in rural areas were able to get a proper education. Especially children in tribe areas did not get enough education facilities, they faced many issues like teacher absenteeism, infrastructural challenges, economic conditions etc. But now it all turned upside down. Children in the tribe area are coming forward to get their education.
How it happened?
In this generation children have much awareness about the uses of education. I think it makes them come forward to get their rights in education. The government of my country has also taken some steps to promote tribal education: The formation of Ashram Schools, Ekalavya Model Residential Schools, Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya. Now they started to achieve something in the world.
How long it took?
It took more years to make these changes in the tribal area. Because people in tribal areas started to engage their children in some kind of economic activities due to poor economic conditions, they also had a lack of knowledge about education so they didn’t allow their children to go to schools. But now they started learning about how education helps them and the importance of education. So some people came forward to let their children get education.
Explain the effect it has had on people in your country.
As I mentioned above, children in tribe areas started to achieve different professions. Dr. S.Kamalakshi was the first tribal from Attappady to opt for medical education, and 23 year old woman V.Sripathy from Yelagiri hills in Thirupathur has become the first civil court judge in Tamilnadu.
Conclusion:
Tribal education is not only to gain more knowledge about the world but it helps them to get status, positive self esteem, and self confidence, necessary courage and inner strength to face challenges in life.
