In the IELTS speaking cue card section the examiner will provide you with a Task Card, more commonly known as an IELTS cue card. The cue card will have the topic on which you have to talk about. You will be given 1 minute to prepare your notes and the examiner will ask you to talk for 1-2 minutes, over all this part lasts for 3-4 minutes. Followed by the IELTS speaking part 3 comes, that is the follow-up question round.

Model answer 1 - Describe something in your country that you are interested in

Introduction:
India is a country famous for its temples, sacred sites, holy rivers, rich cultural heritage, iconic landmarks like the Taj Mahal, diverse cuisine, and lively festivals. However, I would like to describe something that has personally intrigued me. 

What is it?
One aspect of my country that has fascinated me is its spices. India produces more than 50 different types of spices, including turmeric, cumin, coriander, chili peppers, ginger, and pepper. The main states known for spice production in India are Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, and Karnataka, each with its own unique climate. 

How do you know about it?
I came across a website called Wikipedia, which mentioned that India accounts for 74% of global spice production. This fact is reflected in our cuisine and has historical roots in the spice trade that flourished in the Indian subcontinent, East Asia, and the Middle East.

Why are you interested in it?
As Indians, we incorporate spices into our daily meals, making them an integral part of our culinary experience. Spices add flavor and excitement to our food, stimulating our taste buds with their heat. Regularly consuming spices has further piqued my interest and curiosity to explore and learn more about them.

Explain whether you would like to know more about it.
Despite having some understanding of spices, I am eager to expand my knowledge and delve deeper into the topic. In all honesty, I have intentions to visit regions where spices are cultivated in order to gain insight into the growth process, duration of growth, medicinal properties, and other relevant details pertaining to each individual spice.

Conclusion: 
There is evidence suggesting that spices have numerous advantages for our health. They are packed with polyphenols, a specific type of phytochemical found in various plants. These polyphenols possess antioxidant properties that can counteract detrimental free radicals. I am enthusiastic about expanding my knowledge and comprehension of this topic.

Model answer 2 - Describe something in your country that you are interested in

Introduction:
Dance in India encompasses a variety of styles, which can be broadly categorized as classical or folk. Like other aspects of Indian culture, different forms of dance originated in different regions of the country. I believe that discussing dance is the ideal way to share my interests in my own country.

What is it?
Among the many things that interest me in my country, one that has particularly captured my attention is our national dance known as "Bharatanatyam". Bharatanatyam is the oldest classical dance tradition in India and is also the official dance form of Tamil Nadu.

How did you know about it?
Initially, I became aware of Bharatanatyam through the statues found in temples. While visiting these temples, I noticed the statues in various dancing poses, and later discovered that these poses were based on Bharatanatyam. Through further research, I learned that Bharatanatyam is considered the mother of all other classical dance styles and is believed to be the oldest dance form in India, originating from the temple dancers in Tamil Nadu.

Why are you interested in it?
I became interested in Bharatanatyam after reading an article that highlighted its cultural and spiritual significance in Indian culture. It is not just a dance, but a form of spiritual practice that involves a deep connection between the dancer, the music, and the audience. This art form is an integral part of Indian culture and heritage, and learning about it has sparked my interest.

Explain whether you would like to know more about it.
Absolutely, I am very eager to learn more about Bharatanatyam. One aspect that particularly caught my attention is the use of mudras, which are hand gestures that allow the performer to communicate with the audience. I have already joined a Bharatanatyam class and have started learning this dance.

Conclusion
Although it will take me a year to learn the basics of Bharatanatyam, I am committed to not giving up halfway through. After I began learning it, my interest in this dance grew exponentially. I am even considering pursuing advanced studies in it in the future. 

Model answer 3 - Describe something in your country that you are interested in

Introduction:
India is a country with a diverse range of cultures and a rich heritage. With its numerous states, each with its own unique culture, language, religion, and traditions, there are countless fascinating aspects of my country. However, in this text, I will be focusing on one particular interest of mine.

What is it?
Among the many captivating elements of my country, I am particularly intrigued by the language Tamil. Tamil is considered one of the ancient languages and is classified as a Dravidian language, predominantly spoken by the Tamil people in South Asia. It is an official language in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, the union territory of Puducherry, as well as in the sovereign nations of Sri Lanka and Singapore.

How did you know about it?
A few years ago, during my higher studies at the renowned EFG University in New Delhi, I had the opportunity to meet a classmate named Ramesh, who hailed from Tamil Nadu. In a class predominantly filled with English and Hindi speakers, Ramesh stood out as the only one who spoke Tamil, making him quite unique. Over time, through conversations with him, I gradually learned about the history and distinctiveness of the Tamil language.

Why are you interested in it?
During our conversation, he always discussed the unique qualities and history of this language. His words sparked my interest, leading me to delve into learning more about it. Initially, it appeared to be one of the most challenging languages to read and speak. In the beginning it  took me around three days to learn a single sentence. I began to enhance myself gradually by learning one sentence each day, and I made a sincere effort to communicate with my friends in Tamil on a daily basis. I think now I am capable of greeting someone in Tamil like saying “namasthe” or asking  how are you? Have you had your food? etc.    

Explain whether you would like to know more about it.
Certainly, I would love to learn more about this language. Recently, I came across an article mentioning the vast amount of knowledge one can acquire in Tamil. For instance, while learning English requires mastering 26 letters, Tamil has 247 letters. One must first learn all these letters before being able to comprehend or construct sentences. These intriguing facts further fueled my desire to explore the Tamil language. 

Conclusion:
Despite the initial difficulty, I am determined not to give up halfway. I believe that learning this language will expand my knowledge and provide insights into ancient stories. Additionally, studies have shown that learning a new language like Tamil can enhance cognitive function and improve brain health.

Model answer 4- Describe something in your country that you are interested in

Introduction:
Indian culture encompasses various social norms and technologies, which consist of a blend of different cultures including Indian religions, cuisine, language, dance, music, and movies. In this article, I will be discussing the wedding culture in India, which has piqued my interest.

What is it?
Weddings in India differ based on the region, religion, community, and the preferences of the bride and groom. They are celebrated as festive occasions with elaborate decorations, vibrant colors, music, dance, costumes, and rituals that are influenced by the couple's religion and personal choices. The wedding festivities typically commence five days prior to the actual wedding date. While Hinduism has numerous festival-related rituals, Vivaah, or marriage, is the most significant personal ritual undertaken by Hindus. Hindu families invest considerable effort and financial resources in preparing for and celebrating weddings.

How do you know about it?
A few months ago, I had the opportunity to attend a Hindu wedding. I was invited by one of my colleagues from the office to his sister's wedding. Since the wedding took place in their hometown, we had to travel two days in advance. Arriving early allowed me to participate in all the rituals within their family.

Why are you interested in it?
I am interested in it because it was my first experience attending a Hindu wedding and I found all the rituals and traditions to be very new and fascinating. From the Lord Ganesh pooja to the Vivaha Homa, where the couple praises the Lord of Fire, Agni Devta, in hopes of bringing the presence of Vishnu onto the ceremony, and even the game of Ring fishing, all of these rituals sparked my curiosity and made me want to learn more about them.

Explain whether you would like to know more about it.
Yes, I would definitely like to know more about these rituals. Not only the Hindu Vivaah, but I have also heard that Hinduism recognizes eight main types of marriages, ranging from the highest being the Brahmin marriage to the lowest being the Pishacha marriage. These eight types include Brahmin, Daiva, Arsha, Prajapatya, Asura, Gandharva, Rakshasa, and Pishacha marriages. I am also interested in learning about other religious wedding ceremonies, such as Christian weddings and Muslim weddings (Nikka).

Conclusion:
Overall, Hinduism views marriage as a sacred bond and one of the ten sacraments that can never be broken. It is believed to be a lifelong commitment that is established from birth to birth, rather than a mere contract.

IELTS speaking part 3 - Describe something in your country that you are interested in follow up questions.

In part 3 of the speaking test the examiner will ask further questions which are connected to the topics discussed in part 2.We have given some follow up questions related to “Describe something in your country that you are interested in”.

1. What challenges are facing preserving or promoting this aspect of your country?
The preservation of Indian cultural heritage is hindered by the vast size of the country and its diverse cultural assets. This makes it difficult to make quick decisions and allocate funds and manpower for preservation efforts.

2. In what ways do you think this aspect contributes to the identity or reputation of your country?
The unique cultural heritage and traditions of India contribute to its identity and reputation. These aspects attract tourists and contribute to economic development.

3. Have you ever participated in activities related to this aspect of your country? If so, what was your experience like?
No, I have not participated in any activities related to this aspect of my country. While I understand its importance, I have chosen to focus on other aspects of my life such as career pursuits and professional work, which I consider to be more important.

4. Should the government invest more in promoting or preserving this aspect of your country’s culture? Why or why not?
Yes, the government should invest more in promoting and preserving this aspect of our country's culture. By safeguarding our cultural heritage for future generations, we can develop tourist attractions and improve the economic status of the country.
