Model Answer 1:

Introduction:
Like others, I’m also a movie fanatic, watching at least one movie a day. Recently, I watched a movie called ‘Action Hero Biju’, which became my favourite. It’s a Malayalam film showing how a typical cop job is. 

When and where do you see it?
I watched this film a couple of days ago on my laptop, suggested by my friend. Since he watches films of different languages, he knows which is best from which language. 

What type of film was it?
It’s an action-drama film from Mollywood (Malayalam language), where well-known actors like Anu Emmanuel, Nivin Pauly and others acted. 

What the film was about?
The movie is about a sub-inspector’s daily work life, like how he encounters each case and handles them with confidence. He spends no time with the family. He gets threatening calls and opposition from politicians and other local rowdies. However, he’s clever and knows how to overcome them. 

And explain why it is your favourite film?
The movie is directed by Mr. Abrid Shine who gave importance to small details and well showcased the real incidents of a cop’s life. The type of cases he scripted and how the hero faces them using common sense is brilliant. Moreover, the comedy scenes are so hilarious that nobody can stop laughing. Overall, the movie was filled with great entertainment.

Introduction:
Day before yesterday I watched a Tamil film called ‘Veetla Vishesham’ directed by R.J. Balaji who is an actor-cum-director. I saw that movie not more than once, but it became one of my favourite movies.  

When and where do you see it?
I saw that movie the day before yesterday at Forum mall. Even though it was a Sunday, we managed to get a bunch of comfortable seats. Luckily, this time we watched that movie from the beginning as we would not reach the theatre before time. 

What type of film was it?
It’s a comedy-drama film from Kollywood (Tamil language), a remake of ‘Badhaai Ho’ from Bollywood (Hindi). It gives a social message in an unexpected way. 

What the film was about?
The film is about a middle-class family comprising an old couple with two sons and one grandmother. The couple was above 50, and the mother got pregnant. Everyone in the family was overwhelmed by the situation and didn’t know what to do. However, the mother took courage to give birth and raise the baby. As time passed, eventually, the whole family started supporting her and welcomed the newborn baby to the family.

And explain why it is your favourite film?
This film is my favourite because it talks about various problems faced by the mother of their own family. She was blamed for getting pregnant. She had to face their relatives’ questions and feel humiliated. Even though she was treated differently, her confidence and courage won everybody’s heart. In addition, the comedy scenes were in the right places with perfect timing. On the whole, it delivered social media in a subtle way.

Model Answer 3:

Introduction:
Last Saturday, I was asked to watch a movie called ‘12 Angry Men’ to observe and learn some useful lessons for team building and management. Well, it turned out to be true. I saw the film and acquired great insights. 

When and where do you see it?
Last Saturday we had a training program regarding team management, where the trainer insisted us watch the ‘12 Angry Men’ movie. On the same day, I was given a link to the movie, and I saw that on my laptop. 

What type of film was it?
It is a Hollywood movie (English), directed by Sidney Lumet. Surprisingly, it’s an old-aged movie, released in 1957. 

What the film was about?
The film was about a murder case, where a group of jurors discussed the case and tried to find out the culprit. In the beginning, everyone except one juror was convinced that the murderer was the son who stabbed his father with an unusual knife and left the house. The dissenting juror argues that what if someone had killed the father and put the blame on his son. Through constant debate, the wheel is turning on the other side. One by one started to support his opinion and asked more questions. Finally, all members of the jury changed their minds that the murderer was some theif from outside and not his son. 

And explain why it is your favourite film?
This film is my favourite because of its outstanding screenplay, dialogue and characters. This film looks real that we can connect ourselves with those characters. Above all, the facts put forth during the discussion and explaining them with experts is one-of-a-kind.

IELTS Speaking Test Part 3: Follow up Questions

Based on the answers to the cue card - ‘describe your favourite movie’ the examiner will ask the follow-up questions in IELTS Speaking Test part 3. They are as follows:

1. Do you think (watching) films have (has) any educational benefits?
I don’t think so. No films are made to teach education to students or society. Since each film is unique, made for different purposes like entertaining people, a social message, creating awareness, etc. They don’t use much logic. So films do not have any educational benefits.

2. In what ways are documentary films and films only for entertainment different?
There are many differences between documentary films and films only for entertainment. Documentary films are based on real-life incidents, whereas films only for entertainment are based on creativity and imagination. Documentary films use facts, but films only for entertainment do not. Documentary films are meant for specific audiences, whereas films only for entertainment are meant for the general public. So, these are the main differences to highlight.

3.  Why do you think documentary films are not so popular?
Since documentary films are inspired from real-life incidents, it does not contain extra features like comedy, songs, music, etc. Moreover, they don’t do promotional activities like other featured films. Sadly, many people don’t know about documentaries. They assume that it is purely for educational purposes. 

4. How are movies and real life different?
In movies, since every scene is scripted, the audiences would know what will happen next. But in real-life, everything is unpredictable. You can expect anything at any time. Evidently, movies are the stress busters for real life people.  People will forget their problems and watch movies that could change their mind. 

5.  Do men and women watch the same kind of films?
Yes. Most men and women watch the same kinds of films, whether it’s action & thriller or comedy & romance. Besides everyone’s personal interest, both men and women watch all kinds of movies.

6.  Do different age groups like the same kind of films?
Yes. There are films liked by all age groups, be it comedy or action movies. In my opinion, people of different age groups like similar kinds of films mainly because it has a good story and characters. Moreover, the leading role plays an important role that most people get attracted to.

7. Do you like any particular film star? Why?
Yes. I like the actor ‘Nagesh’ who performed his best in various films. I like him because he’s basically a comedian, making everyone laugh with his quick gestures. He knows how to make each scene colourful through his style and sense of humour.  

8. Do you like movie stars who were treated like God?
In India, we have a habit of portraying movie stars as God-like personalities. According to me, it is not correct. Some real-life heroes deserve more than anybody when it comes to name, fame and opportunities. However, people don’t recognise their value but to movie stars.
