IELTS Agree or Disagree Questions and Sample Answers

Below are the 5 agree disagree sample questions with answers given for the IELTS writing task 2 preparation. Practice the samples and write your own answer.

Agree disagree Task 2 Sample 1: Some of the methods used in advertising are unethical and unacceptable in today’s society. To what extent do you agree with this view?

Sample Answer:

The methods used to advertise a product or service are considered unethical and unacceptable in contemporary society. I agree that some of the advertisements diverge from the values and ethics to sell their intended products.

Disclosing real information about the product is an essential ethic in advertising. People rely on the advertiser's information to decide whether to buy the product or not. If the advertisements express false information or false claims, then they will mislead the consumers. If they come to know what they bought is not what they expected, It will even produce psychological irritations. Poor decision-making produces poor self-esteem. The self-esteem of the buyer could be reduced. For example: Imagine that you are buying a dress since advertisements said it is long-lasting. But, the dress tore down within a short period of time. You will be stressed out as you expected it to endure but it didn’t. And, your expenditure proved to be a waste.

Portraying women as sex objects is another problem with advertising. Their idea is to kindle the instinctual forces in men to make them buy their product. Conceiving the woman as sex objects itself is stripping away their dignity. It constructs the image of women poorly in society. It destroys the respect for women and puts them as bare objects to be consumed. The coming generation could perceive women as just a means to satisfy their pleasure. If this prospect comes true, it will lead to disastrous consequences.

I dealt with two ideas which reflect my agreement with the statement that advertisers use unethical and unacceptable methods to sell their products. Both falsifying information and objectifying women is not proper way to advertise any product. It affects the individual and society in a bad way.

Agree disagree Task 2 Sample 2: Government should spend more money on education than sports. Do you agree or disagree?

Sample Answer:

Government should invest money in education, compared to sports. I completely agree that the government should allocate money to schools and education. It is my strong opinion that education will bring both economic benefits and social benefits to the respective society.

Investing in students’ education can improve society economically. If more students are able to enter third-level education, then they can be more skilled. If they are more skilled and educated, then it will lead to innovation and increased productivity. For example, Both South Korea and Finland invested a huge amount of money in the education system. It produced the results in the form of high-tech companies such as Nokia and Samsung. Still, humans are not robots who can work without breaks. So, these companies should provide leisure time to their workers.

Education should not be constrained to economic benefits, it also has social benefits. Education empowers people to be aware of evils of the society such as violence, drugs, alcohol and sexual abuse. Singapore taught their students about the dangers of drugs. As a result, Singapore is considered to be one of the lowest levels of drug abuse in the world. In spite of this, sports can teach team spirit and work ethic to their students, so it improves their social skills.

To conclude, countries should prioritise education over sports when budgeting. Education has so many socioeconomic benefits which improve the quality of a country. The recommendation will be that the government should fund more money into schools and universities in order to enjoy the long-term benefits.

Agree disagree Task 2 Sample 3: The spread of multinational companies and the resulting increase of globalization produce positive effects to everyone. Do you agree or disagree?

Sample Answer:

Globalization helps businesses and organizations to scale up on an international level. I agree that globalization produces positive effects among people, but not for everyone. It has problems intrinsic to it, which need to be uncovered and must be tackled and resolved.

It has the potential to spread advanced technologies and innovations. Most countries are connected to each other around the world, so knowledge transfers so quickly. The more speed the knowledge transferred, the more productivity and innovations can be expected. It also enables economic advancement. For example, I can access whatever I want to learn, regardless of where I am living. This can advance my knowledge and enhance my ability to create new projects.

But, this trend affects local businesses and organizations. They don’t have that much capacity in any aspect to beat the big business giants in competition. Increased competition and increased productivity also result in psychological disturbances. Globalization removes borders and identity and individualises people. It breaks down the sense of community and increases the sense of competition. Employees encounter anxiety and stress in the competitive spirit. Some well-established companies can create an artificial monopolistic market, where they are the sole producer of goods and services. Coca-Cola is one of the well-known examples of a monopoly.

In conclusion, though globalization advances technologies and knowledge widely, it still has negative effects, too. It benefits the multinational companies and employees who are under it. But, it problematizes the possibilities of local businesses. And, also the employees who are striving to achieve face depression and stress.

Agree disagree Task 2 Sample 4: Some people believe that unpaid community service should be a compulsory part of high school programmers (for example working for a charity, improving the neighborhood, or teaching sports to younger children). To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Sample Answer:

Multiple ideas and projects are implemented to improve our society and the overall development of the community. One of the proposed ideas is to make charity programmes and other activities for the development of members of the community compulsory for high school students.

I completely agree with the idea that helping the community will improve the world. But, making it compulsory seems problematic for me. Creating compulsions destroys the inner desire to enhance other lives. It produces half-heartedness in students' hearts. It could even lead to hating others. For example, A child has something else to do in his mind. If you are compelling him to do charitable work, then he will hate those activities, as it becomes a barrier to his pursuit. It could be better to teach the consequences of the charity program, so they naturally start focusing on other lives.

I believe that the idea of community service inculcates responsibility and concern in students towards their society. But, there are also some methods to inculcate rather than making it a compulsory act. Several groups are working in many schools to do charity work without assistance from the school administration. So, it is better to create groups which will inspire students to join in and serve the community.

To conclude, I believe that there are more ways to imbibe concern for others in high school students. Making service for others a compulsory act will destroy both the inner instinct for caring and other possibilities for improving the socially responsible attitude toward others.

Agree disagree Task 2 Sample 5: Big salary is more important than job satisfaction. Do you agree or disagree?

Sample Answer:

It is a widespread conception that choosing a job with a high salary is better even though it is not interesting to people. I completely disagree with this opinion, I think that job satisfaction is more important than high wages.

Firstly, a person with a satisfying job can be more fulfilled than a person with a high salary. If an individual is earning a high salary but is tensed and stressed, could not be able to enjoy his or her life. Pursuing one’s interests enables an individual to work with full spirit and get pleasure and satisfaction. For instance, A lot of artists earn little money or nothing, but they enjoy the process of artistic creation, which makes their lives more fulfilling.

Secondly, People work happily if they are doing the job they want. There is a strong correlation between job satisfaction and productivity. People who like their jobs excel in their respective fields and are able to produce better outcomes. The more growth you reach in your work, the more money you can expect to earn. For example, Henry Miller leaves his well-paying job to become a writer. Though he faced lots of ups and downs, he became one of the most well-paid authors of the twentieth century. Thus, we can say that even the problem of low salary will be reduced if one is doing the job they love.

In conclusion, I strongly believe that people with job satisfaction could be more happy, motivated and successful than those who are earning a higher salary.
