Model Sample Answer 1 Band 8 - Due to the development and rapid expansion of supermarkets in many countries, many small local businesses are unable to compete. Some people think that the closure of local businesses will bring about the death of local communities. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Supermarkets are becoming more popular, raising concerns about their worth to residents compared to smaller stores. In my view, local people benefit more from supporting the local communities than the giant multinationals, despite the fact that supermarkets are more convenient.
Firstly, supermarkets provide several advantages, primarily convenience. Grocery stores provide a wide range of goods, including labeled, fairly priced goods, as well as fresh fruits and vegetables, all in accordance with customers' needs and wants. The local stores, on the other hand, don't have these amenities since they can't afford to stock expensive, high-quality goods. They are also more prone to run out of supplies. Since there are many consumers and little possibility of loss, a supermarket may think about functioning on modest earnings. These elements account for retailers' dominance.
However, supporting small businesses rather than giant corporations, where all revenues go to corporate executives and shareholders. Only a very tiny amount is utilized to pay employees, which is preferable since it can assist the small company owner's development. Additionally, these big businesses have accumulated a lot of cash, like in the case of a business like D-mart, and now they earn disproportionately enormous amounts of money while a small group of people gets a minimum wage. This shows that the actual workers are not being recognized for their contributions and receiving compensation.
In conclusion, some individuals believe that small communities will perish as a result of local companies closing. But one approach to more evenly distribute power within a community is to purchase locally and the consumers should adopt shopping with the local communities.

Model Sample Answer 2 Band 7.5 - Due to the development and rapid expansion of supermarkets in many countries, many small local businesses are unable to compete. Some people think that the closure of local businesses will bring about the death of local communities. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
The supermarket industry has seen a sharp surge. Some argue that this has hurt local shops and might lead to the closure of these small companies. I partially agree with this statement as the lack of options here has certain negative effects on national market areas, the growth of supermarkets helps to maintain high standards of product quality for both local and international enterprises.
On the one hand, supermarkets give customers a variety of options, which motivates other local markets to work hard and try to outperform the first one in terms of the quality of the goods they offer. This illustrates how high-quality items will help the general public. For instance, some enormous malls offer a large range of goods, allowing customers to select from a variety of materials, and other nearby firms in the same industry may easily continue to survive. As a consequence, supermarkets could benefit not just their customers but also other nearby companies by promoting a corporation market.
However, some smaller businesses may also suffer as a result of the large supermarkets. Many individuals think that the goods supplied by local shops are of insufficient quality. In addition, many consumers choose to purchase foreign goods over domestic ones. The local businessmen are negatively impacted since their confidence is likewise affected by this. Due to the weak sales of regional goods in traditional stores, these establishments are unable to compete with supermarkets.
To conclude, the local communities do not entertain many customers due to the craze of international goods. In my opinion, small businesses should be given more consideration, equal to that of large supermarkets.

Model Sample Answer 3 Band 7 - Due to the development and rapid expansion of supermarkets in many countries, many small local businesses are unable to compete. Some people think that the closure of local businesses will bring about the death of local communities. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Small local businesses in various nations eventually disappeared after failing to compete with the supermarkets' quick development and growth. It is well accepted that this phenomenon causes small communities to break up. This statement is not correct as per my view.
Since the majority of the local residents' primary sources of income are disappearing, this issue worries many. It is true, though, that there are a variety of alternative ways for people to make money without having to run their own businesses. For instance, many farmers decide to sell their agricultural products through supermarkets. To improve visitor numbers to their shops, some can even negotiate a contract to integrate their stores into the retail centers. Moreover, supermarkets offer a lot of work chances to communities, which is advantageous for those who are unemployed due to local businesses that have closed.
On the other hand, local communities might flourish if supermarkets take the place of tiny, local businesses. The relationships between rural residents may be enhanced now that contemporary retail centers offer a larger variety of options for people to interact and converse with, than small local markets. Along with shopping, individuals may gather to eat meals, watch movies, or hang out in the cafeteria. Additionally, the closure of community businesses frees up space for other public initiatives like parks, schools, and hospitals, all of which benefit the nearby neighborhoods.
In conclusion, it is doubtful that the opening of new supermarkets will result in the closure of small, neighborhood businesses, but rather will lead to a new style of living and communication among locals.

Model Sample Answer 4 Band 6.5 - Due to the development and rapid expansion of supermarkets in many countries, many small local businesses are unable to compete. Some people think that the closure of local businesses will bring about the death of local communities. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Supermarkets are growing fast and developing quickly in many nations throughout the world. I agree that the growth of large supermarkets has caused a few merchants to close their shops, which has resulted in the destruction of local shops.
Due to a number of real advantages, supermarkets are overtaking away small, community stores in the market. They are well known for offering a wide variety of goods that may fulfill almost any consumer's needs. People find it easier to purchase because they provide nearly everything. Compared to visiting several small, independent stores to obtain what you need, it saves far more time. Furthermore, because supermarkets can store a lot of products, their costs are typically lower than those of local shops for similar items. Thus, the proliferation of supermarkets is drastically destroying small businesses.
In certain instances, the loss of local shops has contributed to the loss of regional identity. The retail establishments have provided a setting for personal discussions. In a bakery, they may hear about a job opening or hear someone recommend a good plumber. They might even share thoughts in a butcher shop. People can now feel like they are a member of the community thanks to those sorts of communication. However, in the interests of efficiency and convenience, the introduction of supermarkets has reduced the personal touch. The fast-shrinking sense of community is seen as being damaged by this lack of communication.
To conclude, supermarkets have a major impact on small and local shops. The dominance should be eliminated and both the markets should be given equal importance and opportunities.
