Model Sample Answer 1 Band 8 - Increasing the price of petrol is the best way to solve traffic and pollution problems. To what extent do you agree or disagree? What other measures do you think might be effective?
With the increase in the number of motor vehicles on the road, some think that increasing the price of fuel will be the only solution, while others deny with this perception. I am completely against such a decision. The ensuing paragraphs will my opinion and proffer preventive measures.
To begin with, the prices for all the necessities will sky-rocket. The daily essentials like groceries, clothes, and rent will increase. The life of a middle-class person will get ruined, there will be hardly any savings left for them to spend on themselves. Higher education and other such plans will have to be neglected due to the shortage of savings. Moreover, this would surely decrease the standard of living, which will more or less affect the luxury business a lot. Overall, this might decrease the happiness index of the whole nation as well and will eventually put a country in shame.
On the flip side, soaring in the price of petrol will encourage the utilization of alternative methods such as CNG or solar renewable energy. Research on these substitute methods will magnify. With the limited amount of fossil fuel left, this change is logical and a correct decision in terms of a futuristic perspective. Vehicles that are powered with these alternatives are cheaper as well.
To sum up, it is evident that despite the fact that positive aspects can be anticipated from these humongous changes but the problems are not too minuscule to be eliminated by us, thus such an act of surge of the cost of petrol prices should not be done. A slow and steady implication of decreasing the utilization of crude oil is a preventive measure authorities should apply.

Model Sample Answer 2 Band 7.5 - Increasing the price of petrol is the best way to solve traffic and pollution problems. To what extent do you agree or disagree? What other measures do you think might be effective?
In the 21st century oil is currently the most widely used kind of energy globally, and in a few decades, all remaining fossil fuels are expected to have been used up. Due to traffic and environmental issues, several people have suggested raising the price of fuel. I disagree with the assertion that creating a clean energy system would be the greatest course of action suggested in this post.
To commence with, this will multiply the cost of the base price of all the basic products. Certain items are usually grown or produced only in a particular area due to the significance of geographical location; these products will become extremely expensive. Considering countries like Canada, a place which is usually covered with snow, agriculture is difficult and thus this nation has to usually import goods from other neighboring countries. Henceforth, if the fuel price increases the cost of essential products in such countries will sky-rocket. Moreover, the cost of commute is bound to increase if the price of fuel price increases. One has to bear the cost of daily travel to work as the salary is not likely to hike if the fuel price increases. This will impact the budgeting of a common household.
On the other hand, an increase in the cost of fuel will discourage the mass to use vehicles less. With the recent numbers of air quality index of Delhi are escalating day by day. This index will surely take a nose-dip as a result of less usage of vehicles; this was quite evident during the lockdown.
To conclude, it can be observed there are hardly any benefits of increasing the price of petrol. I suggest that government should levy some extra taxes if a person goes beyond the required amount of usage of fuels.

Model Sample Answer 3 Band 7 - Increasing the price of petrol is the best way to solve traffic and pollution problems. To what extent do you agree or disagree? What other measures do you think might be effective?
Nowadays, a spike in traffic congestion is and an increase in pollution are observed. Some claim that the increase in the price of petrol will curb this situation. The following paragraphs will give my stance.
First and foremost, there will always remain a concern of economic crash as most of the sectors of the country is dependent on fuel. State Bank of India (SBI) has claimed that if the price of petrol will rise, a crash in the economy will be inevitable. The flow of money will become limited. The current crisis in Sri Lanka can be taken as a warning in this scenario. An article in business standard included an interview of a businessman in Delhi Dharmendra Pradhan truck said that their trucks remain idle even if there is a hike of 2-3 rupees. If a huge soar would be forced the livelihood of many will be in danger. Moreover, looking at the current situation of unemployment such a decision of levying the price of petrol will be risky. Many will be laid off by the employers in order to match the expense hike of fuel.
However, it will be very evident that this would promote a healthy lifestyle. Japanese have adopted a lifestyle where they use cycle in their day-to-day life. The health of common people has been enhanced because of this, the government has given special priority to cycle riders to promote such an act. According to a report published by Kyoto University, the introduction of this method has increased the life expectancy of a human by 36.5 %.
In a nutshell, the gains from such a change are very harmful, even though there might be a few positive aspects. I would suggest the general population should themselves use public transport to reduce traffic and pollution.

Model Sample Answer 4 Band 6.5 - Increasing the price of petrol is the best way to solve traffic and pollution problems. To what extent do you agree or disagree? What other measures do you think might be effective?
Traffic congestion is a major issue on a global scale nowadays. The authorities are trying to improve this situation. Some suggest that increasing the price of gasoline is one of the best solution. My position on this situation and a few measures are given in the following write-ups.
To being with, the most important benefit of such a decision will be a reduced number of vehicles like cars on the road. People will either use vehicles with high mileage or they might even choose public transport such as buses or metros. This will eventually help the dying public transport of certain cities. Due to this, the government will also maintain and upgrade the transportation system, thus, the general public will prefer public transport instead of private cars.
On the flip side, a group of people suggest that there are some alternatives which we can imply as to prevent harsh measures such as increasing the price of petrol. Government can create awareness regarding the sound methods to use their vehicle without harming the environment. effective parking areas must be developed. The government can also build more fly-overs in order to reduce traffic congestion. Such education will be more useful as this will solve the problems as well as make people of a country more civilized citizens.
To sum up, traffic and pollution harm human life, so both public and government should take hand in hand to solve this problem. There are some useful suggestions, such as raising the price of gasoline and taxing private cars. In addition, people need to change their lifestyles and follow new guidelines
