Model Sample Answer 1 Band 8 - Many crimes are often related to the consumption of alcohol. Some people think that the best way to reduce the crime rate is to ban alcohol. Do you think this is an effective measure against crime? What other solutions can you suggest?
The crime rate has skyrocketed in recent years, particularly in rural areas. The majority of people believe that the increase is warranted due to alcoholism and that it should be prohibited. Although alcohol prohibition helps reduce crime rates in some ways, I believe other factors contribute to the apparent increase of the same.
I really believe that alcohol prohibition is not a deterrence because there are numerous other elements that may be the cause. The majority of crimes, particularly murder and terrorist attacks, are premeditated and the perpetrator is unaffected. During this period, crimes are also committed, although alcohol is not necessarily a factor. However, prohibiting alcohol will reduce minor crimes significantly. For instance, it will reduce domestic and sexual violence dramatically. Individuals under the influence of alcohol are more likely to commit such offenses. This will undoubtedly minimize traffic-related crimes. People who are under the influence of alcohol are incapable of coherent thought. As a result, individuals are able to achieve things they normally would not.
However, alcohol prohibition is not the last resort because alcohol consumption is not the leading cause of crime. To decrease crime rates, it is essential to improve the level of life for all members of society. The majority of offenders come from extremely impoverished families. Some individuals have dysfunctional homes or toxic romantic relationships. If you wish to minimize the crime rate, each of these concerns must be addressed. It would be beneficial to increase employment prospects for college-educated youth and give mental health counseling services.
In conclusion, I believe that prohibiting drugs and alcohol has a small effect on reducing crime, however, educating the public would indeed have a significant impact. If we work together, we can attain true independence for our nation.

Model Sample Answer 2 Band 7.5 - Many crimes are often related to the consumption of alcohol. Some people think that the best way to reduce the crime rate is to ban alcohol. Do you think this is an effective measure against crime? What other solutions can you suggest?
In recent years, crime rates have skyrocketed, particularly in rural areas. The majority of people believe the increase of problems is due to alcoholism and that it should be prohibited. Although alcohol prohibition helps reduce crime rates in some ways, I believe there are other solutions leading to the betterment of the individuals and society.
Studies have shown that people who are drunk are more likely to commit crimes; therefore, alcohol prohibition can be seen as an effective policy to reduce crime. When a person drinks alcohol, he loses the ability to think clearly, which leads to various offenses. For example, rates of serious crimes such as harassment of women and children at home and at work are on the rise. In most of these cases, the defendant will be an alcoholic. Moreover, due to irresponsible driving, a number of innocent people have lost their lives or been seriously injured in road traffic accidents. Therefore, to avoid such situations, alcohol prohibition can be helpful.
Even though all of the above is true, there are methods to prevent crime that do not involve outlawing things. People can be educated on the effects of alcohol consumption, including how it affects a person's physical and mental health. By stimulating them in little ways, all negative emotions and thoughts can be converted into something constructive. I believe education is the most effective method for eliminating this problem.
Alcohol prohibition may seem like a smart method to lower alcohol-related crime rates, but I believe that better management and spreading awareness in the form of education can be the most effective solution.

Model Sample Answer 3 Band 7 - Many crimes are often related to the consumption of alcohol. Some people think that the best way to reduce the crime rate is to ban alcohol. Do you think this is an effective measure against crime? What other solutions can you suggest?
Many countries are reporting an increase in alcohol-related crimes due to an increase in the consumption of hard liquors. However, while many people believe that these crimes can be reduced by outlawing the sale of alcohol, I believe that there are more effective methods for reducing alcohol-related crimes.
Alcohol prohibition is not an appropriate method for preventing crime. First, it will cause chaos among the Christian population, as wine consumption for religious purposes is permitted for their faith. Additionally, this procedure cannot alter the criminals' mindset. In modern times, there have been a plethora of instances that support the notion that restricting wine consumption would have a distressing effect on the nation's economy, thereby adding fuel to the fire.
However, the government should be more meticulous with its legislation and increase the number of job openings. In the first place, the lack of employment opportunities compels many individuals to engage in violent behavior. Moreover, some people may feel depressed when they are unable to find a suitable job, even after completing their education, which puts them under pressure and encourages them to engage in terrorism.
Increasing the price of liquor is a further method for preventing alcohol-related crime. This will require consumers to spend more money for the same quantity, resulting in a decline in consumption. I believe that alcohol prohibition impacts not only those who do not commit crimes after consuming it but also the businesses that sell it. Therefore, I believe that if prices are increased, consumption will likely decrease.

Model Sample Answer 4 Band 6.5 - Many crimes are often related to the consumption of alcohol. Some people think that the best way to reduce the crime rate is to ban alcohol. Do you think this is an effective measure against crime? What other solutions can you suggest?
It is true that alcohol use impairs the brain's ability to make decisions. Regarding the frequency of crimes committed while under the influence of alcohol, many individuals believe that its prohibition would enhance the social climate. However, I do not quite concur with this viewpoint.
Initially, a prohibition on alcoholic beverages may reduce the crime rate for a period because the number of criminal acts committed under the influence will decline, but I do not believe this is a viable answer. If a person is addicted to a substance, he or she will attempt to obtain it regardless of the prohibition. For instance, drug sales and purchases are prohibited in the majority of nations, but people nevertheless have access to them since they are sold illegally. It may result in an increase in the crime rate as a result of drug trafficking and unlawful sales and purchases.
However, alcohol prohibition alone will not help. Additional efforts are necessary to minimize the crime rate. One of them is the strict enforcement of law and order. In India, for instance, laws are frequently lenient and there are several loopholes. This must be altered. By speeding criminal proceedings and implementing strict regulations, the government can significantly reduce criminal activity. When individuals understand the consequences of their conduct, they are less inclined to participate in objectionable behavior.
To conclude, when it comes to the prohibition of alcohol, it might reduce the crime rate, but other policies, such as stricter law enforcement, are more effective at reducing crime.
