Model Sample Answer 1 Band 8 - Many old buildings are protected by law because they are part of a nation's history. However, some people think old buildings should be knocked down to make way for new ones because people need houses and offices.  How important is it to maintain old buildings? Should history stand in the way of progress?

From our school days, we are taught about each and every piece of our history, the people who were a part of this history are no more with us, the only thing left are the buildings from that era. Some have the opinion that we should demolish these constructions to make new ones. The solution for this debate will be elaborated further in the ensuing paragraphs.

First and foremost, we should reconcile that we have a long history, freedom, and many privileges because of our ancestors. The only tangible memory we have with us are these buildings. It would be dull-witted to destroy these properties in order to create something which might not have a huge importance in our life. These new constructions will not fill us with courage or any other important feelings.

On the contrary, it should not be disregarded that all the buildings have some limitations, the base of these buildings is likely to fall off in a particular time frame. It is very dangerous to keep them, as sooner or later they will be a threat to the life around them. Some parts of the structure might fall off, resulting in some damage to the surroundings. The amount of money and manpower required to maintain these old properties is much more than the new structure.

To conclude, it is evident that albeit, the expenses are more with the old establishments, the sentiments we have with these constructions should be given more importance and, thus we must not demolish them.

Model Sample Answer 2 Band 7.5 - Many old buildings are protected by law because they are part of a nation's history. However, some people think old buildings should be knocked down to make way for new ones because people need houses and offices.  How important is it to maintain old buildings? Should history stand in the way of progress?

It is a fact that many constructions are protected by the authorities in order to safeguard the history of that place. Nevertheless, some perceive that these properties should be replaced with upgraded establishments. The significance of these buildings and the solution to this dilemma will be explained in further writeups.

To commence with, many buildings serve the purpose of emotional memories to a vast population. There are many constructions that are heirlooms; they make future generations attached to their ancestors. In today's era, a number of people are getting attracted to western culture so much, that they are getting drifted from their own religion. The heritage will remind us of the sacrifice and struggles that our elders have gone through for us to live a privileged life.

On the flip side, some buildings in any part of the world have conflicts that massacre the common people. A solution to this misery can only be constructing anything else after demolishing the existing structure. For instance, we are witnesses to the recent events of a dispute that sparked between groups of people due to a structure. It enraged a huge populace not only causing damage to the national property but also hurting many emotions. Finally, to tackle this a new structure was built; according to some suggestions, if this construction started years ago then, this damage would never have been caused.

To conclude, it can be taken into account that new construction would be a logical step that we should take in order to curb some anticipated alarming situations.

Model Sample Answer 3 Band 7 - Many old buildings are protected by law because they are part of a nation's history. However, some people think old buildings should be knocked down to make way for new ones because people need houses and offices.  How important is it to maintain old buildings? Should history stand in the way of progress?

With the advancement of everything, the space for constructing new buildings is lacking, henceforth some are of the opinion that the buildings protected by the government can be superseded by the new properties; they perceive that history should not come in the way of progression. The stance of the general populace is expressed in the upcoming paragraphs.

To begin with, we should understand that the structure constructed in the past represents many heroic deeds or any sort of inspiration. For instance, the remains of Tanaji Malusare, one of the greatest warriors are still preserved. These inspire the people of today’s era to fight for their community selflessly.

On the contrary, instead of keeping these old buildings, some suggest that new formations that can elevate the importance of that particular place can be a better alternative. A beautiful new formation should be constructed in order to upgrade, this way more people will visit. This substitute will serve the purpose of the buildings constructed in the past, as they will be able to give the essence of all the important details that our ancestors wanted us to remember. Hence, the requirement will be fulfilled.

To sum up, it should be taken into account that the new constructions will magnify the purpose and solve the problem of the old buildings. It must be understood that the re-formations of any historic monuments are always not negative. The authorities should make some efforts to unite both the purpose and construct a new building so that the upcoming generations will always remember.

Model Sample Answer 4 Band 6.5 - Many old buildings are protected by law because they are part of a nation's history. However, some people think old buildings should be knocked down to make way for new ones because people need houses and offices.  How important is it to maintain old buildings? Should history stand in the way of progress?

Old buildings are considered artifacts of the past that should be preserved. Others, however, believe that a new phase in a nation’s growth will begin with the advent of modern structures. In the ensuing paragraphs, I would discuss both sides.

Firstly, it is believed that older structures are repositories as a museum for a nation’s glorious past. The visual of all the parts of that building teaches young people to feel proud of their country’s past as they go about their daily lives along each route, without a doubt. To rewrite, thrive and fly, philosophically speaking, a city needs an unbreakable connection between these three temporal axes, much as a person does when they hold on to the past to reflect, take in the present to enjoy, and consider the future.

Another defense is that this old building showcases the distinctive architecture and provides emotional comfort to city people who experience rush-hour sickness. Since it is difficult for modern people to replicate the beauty that famous architects of the past who used historical materials created, certain streets filled with unique buildings are perfect places for tourists from across the world to savor a sense of the quiet old days. To help those imprisoned in an insane life decompress, the little old dwellings simulate oases. Opponents claim that the city's streets are so crowded as a result of population growth that old, hazardous, and dirty residences should be demolished to make way for skyscrapers that can house the increasing number of people who relocate there in quest of a better life.

To wrap up, the existence of ancient buildings is essential to the sustainability of any city, in my opinion, because of their uniqueness and status as tourist hotspots. In the end, each point of view has its own rationale.
