Most countries around the world have specific sanctions for each type of crime. However, other people believe that while penalising victims, the context, circumstances, and motivation should also be considered. There are several points of view, but I am of the opinion that there should be a predetermined sentence for each crime.

To begin with, equality is the most important factor that any democracy's court adheres to. We live in a modern world where everyone has equal rights and the law applies to everyone equally. All democracies adhere to their constitutions, which are the same for all citizens. Treating the same crime differently results in hypocrisy and disrespect for the judiciary and the constitution. It even creates unease and a sense of inequity among citizens.

Furthermore, factors like motivation and environment can be changed to mislead the judge. It will be difficult for the judiciary to keep track of each type of case, and if such rules are implemented, it will be more akin to a monarchy or dictatorship. Criminals may exploit these gaps in the legislation to mislead the court by presenting an incorrect circumstance. 

On the other hand, it is feasible that the same punishment for a similar crime will be unfair at times. Some crimes, most likely big crimes, that occur in a wholly different setting should be punished differently. A planned murder, for example, should be punished differently than an accident. Instead of making people feel unsafe, these laws will allow them more freedom.

To conclude and offer my position, crime should be fixed for all types of punishment, as this is the best way to keep the system running. Accountability and simplicity will be maintained, as will citizen equality.

Since the crime rate has increased over the contemporary era, some people believe that there should be a standard penalty for all offences. However, some are of the notion that the severity of the offence and the circumstances should be considered before any punishment is handed out. In my perception, I firmly agree with the latter viewpoint. My preference is justified further.  

Supporters of the former viewpoint state that fixed sanctions are appropriate when just the consequences of each sort of crime are considered. Fixed penalty may serve to remind people of the punishment they will receive. These would deter some people from committing crimes. For example, robbery would be subject to a specific punishment because it not only affects the victim but also spreads terror throughout society. Fixed punishment will have a community-wide deterrent effect. Furthermore, the penalty, such as a fine, must be correct. This deterrent effect also aids society with stability and security by reducing the amount of crimes committed.

Proponents of the latter viewpoint state that, some portion of a crime committed by an individual, whether on purpose or in self-defence. It is important to consider the context and the reasons for the crime when determining a fair sentence. The accused should have the opportunity to explain to the court or jury why he committed the offence for which he is on trial. This means that the court has the option of considering the offender's motivations before deciding on a punishment.  

To sum up and offer my position, I believe a killing committed in self-defense cannot be compared to a murder. The murderer should receive a predetermined and final penalty. As a result of the power of the law, there will be fewer criminals in our society.

Many people are adamantly opposed to mandatory punishment for all criminals, regardless of severity. Personally, I believe that the reason for a crime should always be considered before a final conviction is issued. My stance is justified below.

To begin with, if there is a predetermined penalty for every crime, all killers will face the same punishment. This system will surely boost judgmental effectiveness. Because the punishment for each offence is already stated in the law books, judges only need to pronounce the verdict. There will also be fewer problems with the law when punishments are consistent with previously set regulations.

Unfortunately, the reasons in favour of a fixed sentence are not as compelling as they appear. Circumstances virtually always influence human behaviour. Crime is no exception. Two murders with quite different motivations are possible. Perhaps one of them intended to kill, while the other was merely attempting to defend himself from the aggressor and accidentally killed. If there are predetermined consequences for murder, they will both receive the same punishment. This is unfair. It is also unjust to subject minors to the same punishment as adults. As a result, it is clear that serious ethical difficulties may arise if the consequences for each offence are predetermined.

To recapitulate, when establishing the proper sentence, the court, in my opinion, should consider both the gravity of the offence and the circumstances that led to it. Finally, imposing a fixed punishment for each offence is unreasonable because no two people who do the same crime have identical intentions.

A large portion of the population holds the view that certain crimes should carry more severe penalties than others, while others argue that the context and intent of a crime should always be taken into account when determining a suitable response. In my opinion, each of these possibilities have advantages that strengthen the legal system and contribute to public safety.

On one hand, a fixed punishment has several positive outcomes. First, having a predetermined penalty for a specific type of crime might serve as a deterrent to others and serve as an example to others who might consider engaging in illegal activity. As a result, the crime rate goes down, bringing peace and security to the area, and the government has an easier time exerting its authority over the country.

On the other hand, unintended circumstances, such as self-defence, frequently lead to the commission of a crime. While it's apparent that all wrongdoers should face consequences for their actions, there are times when a man must take potentially dangerous measures to safeguard his human rights. In 2009, for instance, a teacher in the UK fatally shot a terrorist to save her children and coworkers. These should be treated as exceptional circumstances that call for a lesser penalty than the death penalty rather than its application.

To conclude, consequences are established not merely to deter bad actors and maintain peace and order, but also to shield the community's good citizens. Therefore, consistent punishment is a useful instrument for the legal system to secure its inhabitants; nevertheless, it is suggested that the context of each crime and the motivation of the offender be considered as well.
