The arts are both a window into a culture's history and an expression of the unique personalities of the citizens of a country. While I agree that the government shouldn't waste money on the arts, I also think that doing so would be a mistake.

It is widely believed that investing in the arts is inappropriate for national progress and citizen welfare. Many people propose that the available funds should be used to improve infrastructure such as healthcare facilities, transportation networks, educational opportunities, and other similar institutions which will help in better transportation to previously unavailable areas and more medical attention for those who are sick. Better educational opportunities for kids should be the main focus. Many governments, in the eyes of these individuals, simply cannot afford to support the art as it is a luxury.

On the other hand, the arts are just as important as other areas where investment is needed. The arts have been shown to reduce crime, increase social cohesion, and increase civic participation, all of which point to the economic benefits of investing in their growth and maintenance. Visitors from all over the world flock to museums and art galleries, boosting the economy, while artists expose the biases of our society through their creations. Similarly, engaging in artistic pursuits like painting, music, acting, dancing, and so on can help relieve stress and teach people new skills. Likewise, these kinds of actions give the world a good impression of a country. Many museums and theaters would close permanently without government funding for the arts. The true development of a nation depends as much on the arts as it does on science.

In conclusion, the arts benefit both individuals and society. Thus, government arts funding is not wasteful.

Model Sample Answer 2 Band 7.5 - Some people say the government is wasting money on arts and that this money could be better spent elsewhere. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Some people argue that a nation has more important issues to deal with before it can devote resources to the arts. It seems reasonable to me, however, to set aside some of the budgets for the purpose of preserving and fostering the arts, as I believe they are an integral part of any culture.

Of course, those opposed to funding for the arts have their reasons for doing so. First of all, the majority of artistic endeavours are costly and lack obvious results that are directly related to a country's income. For instance, the Kebangkitan Pahlawan monument in Malang city, which has absorbed almost 1 billion rupiahs, does not draw a lot of attention. In addition, art is not essential to the continuation of human life. The existence of humans will not end simply because they lack aesthetic taste.

Nonetheless, I continue to believe the government should provide funding for the arts. There is a strong possibility that a country's arts scene will become a significant economic driver as the arts become increasingly integral to the nation's identity. In addition, art makes life worthwhile. Art, like food, is a supplement to the human soul. Its uniqueness has a magnificent power to aid buildings, roads, parks, and everything. Consider how empty a room would be if there were no paintings or decorations on the walls. Art enriches people's lives by allowing them to make use of their experiences and develop their own uniquely beautiful imaginations.

In conclusion, it is essential for a government to invest in the arts because doing so would either improve the tourism industry or provide better artistic facilities, both of which would help in an overall improvement in the quality of life.

Model Sample Answer 3 Band 7 - Some people say the government is wasting money on arts and that this money could be better spent elsewhere. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

There are some people who believe that funding the arts is a waste of money that could be better used to address other, more urgent societal problems. I agree that there are probably a lot of issues that can't be fixed unless we allocate a lot more money to the problem.

I agree with the idea that the government should spend money on increasingly serious problems rather than the arts. This is due to the fact that the majority of talented people in today's society are focused on their careers and looking for better ways to earn money. To put it another way, modern media considers the arts to be pointless; instead, it would be more beneficial to direct resources toward finding solutions to the major problems that impede the economic development of so many countries. Because a healthy population results in an increase in the size of the labour force, which in turn contributes to a high level of budget, healthcare is deserving of more financial support than the arts.

Another factor to take into account is that art is not a necessary component of a well-rounded education and therefore should not be given more weight than other topics. Because of this, it won't be possible to assist young people in finding jobs in the future. As an illustration, considering that the arts aren't as crucial as other subjects, parents typically encourage their children to concentrate on math and science while they are in school rather than the arts.

To summarise, the primary concerns for every nation should be addressing important issues such as healthcare reform and educational inequality. These should be the primary factors.

Model Sample Answer 4 Band 6.5 - Some people say the government is wasting money on arts and that this money could be better spent elsewhere. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Some people think that the government should not spend a lot of money on the arts, and that the money would be better spent on other parts of society. This essay disagrees with the idea that the government should spend more money on things that are more important than the arts. First, this essay will show that craft has a positive effect on people's mental health. Second, it will show how important it is to develop the art industry so that it can become evidence of the age.

First of all, art has been an important part of human life for thousands of years. It lets them not only make something beautiful and interesting, but also relieve stress, show how they feel, and stop thinking about bad things. For instance, a lot of psychologists tell their patients to go to different craft workshops to give their brains a break, and such art therapies should be supported.

Also, there is no doubt that art is one of the best ways to describe an era. People can learn about their ancestors' thoughts, ideas, and fears through the craft. For example, ancient people drew a lot on the walls of the caves where they lived. These drawings have been there for thousands of years and now help historians figure out our own history.

To sum up, the government should certainly drive the art industry so that art therapy can help people deal with their problems and give people a way to say what they think and feel.
