Digitalization has allowed the world to evolve more rapidly. However, there are some drawbacks of digital technologies in every sector. Mainly the pandemic caused by a virus brought a revolution in the education industry where many universities and schools started online teaching. Moreover, some universities also started offering online courses through the internet. There are some merits and demerits of online courses.

Firstly, online courses are very convenient for people who live far from universities as it can be cost-effective and time-saving for people who live in rural areas but want to study at a good and reputed university. Furthermore, it can be helpful for people as online courses offer flexibility in the schedule as there are not any fixed or strict schedules to follow like offline courses. Students can set their pace of learning which is not possible in offline courses as in a physical classroom the teacher sets the pace of learning. Teachers can include videos, presentations, live chats, virtual conferences, and whiteboards that can be provided through the digital classroom.

On the contrary, the traditional theory and method of teaching can never be replaced by digital tools. Communications and group discussion happens face to face in offline classes which can never be matched with online discussions. Moreover, students can remain more serious and committed to their studies as compared to students enrolling in online courses.

To conclude, students who can afford to go to university should not enrol in offline courses. Whereas, online courses should be open to people who are living in remote places or rural areas.

Due to this, they can balance their schooling with their other domestic responsibilities. Internet access allows students to collect their academic sources from sitting at home. As a result, their capacity to study individually is developed improperly. Second, elderly people find online education to be highly useful. Due to differences in religion, gender, language, etc. Many individuals were unable to complete their education in the past, but now they are able to do so with the help of online courses offered by some universities.

Students have fewer opportunities for face-to-face contact with their faculties, which is the major drawback of online education considering its advantages. They depend entirely on written information, like notes, perspectives, live chat, etc. Apart from this, they have insufficient interaction with people. This issue may lead to a loss of motivation and an inability to share different viewpoints. For example, students get a variety of assignments as projects, which they afterwards debate in teams.

In conclusion, online education in universities has a few drawbacks but it is a great step toward innovation in our society and with online education, a person's desire for additional education can be satisfied, which they might not be unable to achieve earlier.
