Each of the four sections is addressed as subtests and is graded on a scale of 0-90 in a PTE score calculator. PTE total scores calculation is done using artificial intelligence and technological techniques.

PTE Scoring System
PTE Score calculator follows the Global Scale of English (GSE) standard with a scoring scale of 10-90. The highest score is 90 and the lowest score is 0 as per the PTE band calculator. The scoring of PTE subtests in a PTE exam calculator is done based on the partial credit and correct/ incorrect markings. The scores are assessed through the candidate’s communicative and enabling skills. Certain tasks are awarded points based on correct answers while other tasks are rated based on quality, correctness, and formal aspects. The machine scoring system of PTE has several scoring criteria that influence overall PTE score calculation. Here are the details of PTE scoring system:
Category | Details |
Partial Credit | This means that marks are awarded for correct answers and marks are deducted for incorrect answers |
Correct/ Incorrect | This refers to marks being awarded only for correct answers and marks are not deducted or awarded for wrong answers |
Communicative Skills | These include the reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills of a candidate. For each section marks are awarded which are added to the PTE overall score calculator online. |

How are PTE Scores Calculated?
PTE band calculator uses sum and average for overall PTE score calculation. PTE overall score calculator has separate marking criteria for each module- listening, reading, writing, and speaking. The overall PTE score calculator sums the scores of each module and then calculates the average, rounding it to the nearest whole number which is the final PTE score.
Here is an example of how to calculate the PTE score:
Example:
- Reading: 57
- Listening: 45
- Writing: 82
- Speaking: 53
Total score= 57+45+82+53 = 237
Average = 237/4 = 59.25
After rounding off to the nearest whole number, the overall PTE score is 60.
Pearson, the conducting body of PTE, has made changes in their concordance report. As a result, PTE scores to equate with IELTS band score should be at least 30 which was earlier 23. The PTE score calculator for each module is given below to show how to calculate the PTE score:
