Even if the answer is right, if you have written more than the word limit given, your answer will be marked incorrect and you will lose marks.
2.Find the title
In some question papers, there will be a title given before the questions. The title will help you understand the context of the audio better. Some question papers may not contain the title so you have to understand the context from the given questions.
3.Predict the answers yourself
Read the questions and try to think what type of answer they can have. Then while listening to the audio you can focus on the right words. Usually, the answers for the IELTS Listening form completion questions are mostly factual information like surname, place name, date, phone number, postcode, etc.
4.Improve your vocabulary
Yes, you require good vocabulary for the listening test too. You must be able to understand the words that you hear related to time, numbers, prices, dates, letters, and addresses. You can check out the IELTS Listening Words to find commonly used vocabulary in the IELTS Listening test.
5.Recognise synonyms and paraphrasing
The words in the questions may be synonyms of the words used in the audio. The sentences may be paraphrased too. Identify such words and sentences while you go through the questions that have the chance of being rephrased or paraphrased.
6.Don't be confused by distractors
Be careful of words like but, however, etc, which may be used to distract the listener from the actual answer. In such cases, you should think before you answer the question. These words might create confusion and you might end up writing the wrong answer. So check for such distractors in the audio.
7.Order of Answers
The audio will be played in the same order as it is in the question paper. This will make it easier for you to look for the answers. You can get the first answer first and the second answer after that.
8.Guess the answer if required
Don't leave any question unanswered or blank. You can guess what the answer would be and fill in the blanks. Don't spend too much time on one question if you don't know the answer. If you need more help in solving the questions you can check the IELTS Listening tips.
