Describe a farm you know about - Model answer 1

Introduction

India is an agricultural country. Approximately 58% of the residents rely on farming activities for livelihood. There are numerous farms in my country. Every village has several farms where people work to earn their livelihood.
Which farm is it? And where is it?
The farm I know about and want to talk about is my maternal aunt’s farm. It is situated in the rural region of Vadodara district. It is located 5 kms from her place in Sevasi.

How do you know about it? And have you visited it? If not, why?

My aunt’s husband’s family has an agricultural background. They have 10 acres of land. I haven known about the farm ever since I was a seven year old child. But I first visited the farm when I was 9 years old on my first stayover at my aunt’s place. I even worked in the field by sowing the seeds, helping my uncle and the workers there along with my brothers.

What do you like about it?

The farm is huge and has various types of crops all around. Its borders are lined with beautiful flower bushes and small samplings. The best thing about the farm is the treehouse in one corner overlooking fields in its vicinity.

Conclusion

A farm is the work place of several people in my country and it is also the place where the food that we eat comes from. This farm is the place that I like to go to whenever I feel overwhelmed.

Introduction

• Farming is a profession that cannot be neglected.
• As long as we, mankind are alive we need food.
• It is a place where we can see nature blossoming and producing the food that we consume.

Which farm is it? And where is it?

• This farm is known as “Modern farm”. It is situated in Vadodara, near Genda circle.
• It is actually a training school for farmers that teaches them about the various sustainable ways of farming.
• My school had taken us on a trip to the farm in 6th grade for an excursion trip.

How do you know about it?

• We were briefed about the place by our science faculty, who was leading the trip.
• She explained about the main aim of “Modern Farm”, which was to do organic farming and also teach the same to the farmers.

Have you visited it? If not, why?

• We went to the farm by our school bus. We were welcomed by the naturally churned juice from the oranges grown in the farm.
• We were able to see the mango orchard, the green vegetable fields as well as the beautiful orchard of oranges.

What do you like about it?

• I loved the beautiful orchard of oranges, which had been blossoming since it was winter.
• The farm itself was very beautiful overall, and the raw beauty of the fruit orchards was eye catching and mesmerising.

Conclusion

• Framing is crucial for the survival of mankind, without it we will starve. Though that is the only farm I have visited and known about, it has changed my perception about the farm lands and farmers.

Introduction

A farm is the core of rural India. It is one of the most important occupations for a large number of citizens. As a consequence, farming and animal husbandry are encouraged globally by both the public and private sectors.

Which farm is it? And where is it?

The farm that I know is a part of our ancestral property. It is being taken care of by my grandfather’s brother, seeing as my parents and I live in an urban area. Our farm is situated in our village.

How do you know about it? And have you visited it? If not, why?

I have visited the farm many times, ever since I was young. The last time I visited was during the holidays for Diwali, which we celebrated there for the first time. I visited the farm for the first time when I was merely three years old. I have a distinctive memory of myself and my siblings playing with the scarecrow. My father often shares his childhood memories that he created here.

What do you like about it?

The farm is not very big; however, it has a two-story rest house that is used for afternoon rest. We turned it into our memory room by decorating it with fairy lights and polaroids of the family. It is my favourite place there.

Conclusion

It was always fun to go there and create new memories. I wish we could visit it more frequently because it helps in relaxing and breaking the monotonous routine that we follow.

Introduction

• Today, a huge number of people have opted to migrate to metropolises for work, leaving behind their farmlands.
• I want to describe a farm that I know belongs to my friend.

Which farm is it? And where is it?

• This is my friend’s ancestral farm; it has been passed down from her ancestors.
• Her family shifted into the city for her siblings' and her own education.
• Their farm is located in Jamnagar, Gujarat.

How do you know about it?

• A few years ago, after returning to her village for the summer vacation,
  She had shown me the pictures and videos that she had taken of the surroundings and farm.
• That was the first time I actually saw the farm, although I knew about it since we first met in 8th grade.

Have you visited it? If not, why?

• No, I have never visited the farm myself.
• It is very far away from my native place, which is in Vadodara.
• Hence, my parents did not allow me when I was younger. And now we barely have enough time to take a day trip somewhere nearby.

What do you like about it?

• From the pictures and videos that I have seen, I love the greenery that it is surrounded by on the northern side, as the farm is on the edge of a hill.

Conclusion

• I have never visited a farm before, but I hope that I do soon.
• Because it is so pretty, and I want to see how they work on the farms.

IELTS Speaking Part 3: Describe a farm you know about Follow-up Questions

This is the last round after the cue card. It is called a discussion round. The duration of this section is 4-5 minutes. The candidates are supposed to give elaborate answers of at least 3-4 lines. Here you have been provided with IELTS speaking part 3 follow-up questions for the cue card topic, “Describe a farm you know about”.

1. Is it easy to farm in your country?
   
   Answer: No, it is not easy for every farmer. There are several villages where water is not readily available. For instance, few villages in the Kutch region of my state, Gujarat, rely on the monsoon season, but it is not sufficient for farming. The canals are yet to reach these regions, putting them in a dire situation.
   
   
2. Did you do farming when you were young?
   
   Answer: I've never worked in agriculture. I was born and brought up in a city. We hardly ever visited our family in the rural area, due to my parents' job and my school. But I want to at least try it once, even if it is a small and irrelevant task like the removal of weeds or sowing the seeds.
   
   
3. Which types of farms are popular in your country?
   
   Answer: India is a country whose more than 50% of the population is dependent on agriculture. There are various different farms, such as those of wheat, paddy, millets, maize, and so on. These, depending on the area, are famous. For example, cotton farms are famous in the areas of the western ghats where black soil is found.
   
   
4. Do you think farming is a crucial part of the country’s economy?
   
   Answer: My country is known as an agricultural country. The rural population relies on agricultural activities to earn a living. Along with this fact, almost all the sectors of the economy are related to farming. Almost 70% of the country's income is generated by the agricultural sector. Hence, farming is an important part of the economy.
   
   
5. What is your opinion on the farmer protest in India?
   
   Answer: The protest against the central government was done by the farmers’ union of Punjab. They were against the farm legislation that was enacted by the authorities. Although I support them, I did not like how ugly it had turned. It had become very violent, and the framers had blocked the freeway and the roads leading into Delhi. This had created a discrepancy in the city and the people’s lives there.
   
   
6. What do you think about the technological advancement in the agricultural sector?
   
   Answer: With globalisation, every sector of the economy was able to advance technology. This was possible in agriculture too. For example, earlier people ploughed the fields using tools or by using their cattle. It took them a huge amount of time to plough, but with advancement, they are now able to use machines to do that for them, taking less time and effort.
