Introduction
Today, I'd like to discuss a place of tremendous historical significance that has piqued my curiosity - the ancient city of Machu Picchu.

What the place is
Machu Picchu is a beautiful archaeological wonder located high in Peru's Andes Mountains. This UNESCO World Heritage site is known for its beautifully-preserved remains as well as its rich history. It is also known as the "Lost City of the Incas."

Where it is located
Machu Picchu is roughly 2,430 meters above sea level and overlooks the Urubamba River valley. This amazing landmark is located in Peru's Cusco Region and may be reached via a lovely train ride from Cusco or a difficult hike via the famous Inca Trail.

What is the significance of the place
Machu Picchu has enormous historical, architectural, and cultural significance. It was created as a royal estate by the Inca monarch Pachacuti in the 15th century. The city is distinguished by perfectly fitting stone blocks, excellent engineering techniques, and elaborate terraces demonstrating the Incas' creative urban design. The site's strategic position and well-preserved structures provide insights into the complex manner of life of the Inca empire.

“Tanjore BigTemple” - Describe a Place of Historical Importance Model Answer 2

Introduction

Today, I'd like to discuss a place of tremendous historical significance that has piqued my curiosity - the Big Temple or Peruvudaiyar temple or Brihadeeswara temple in Tanjore.

What is this place about?

The Big Temple is a beautiful Hindu Temple located in TamilNadu. The main deity of the temple is lord shiva in the name Brihadeeswara. Other deity’s include Goddess Parvathy, Lord Muruga , Lord Nataraja and other small deities. This temple is included in UNESCO World Heritage and it is the testament of the chola architecture. This architectural marvel was built in the 11th Century by the great Tamil king Raja Raja Chola.

Where is it located?

The temple is located in the city of Thanjavur or Tanjore, also known as the “Rice Bowl of Tamil Nadu”. Tanjore is located 350 kms from the capital city of Tamilnadu. The city is very well connected by roadways and railways. The nearest international airport is Trichy, 55 kms away from Tanjore. 

What is the significance of the place?

This temple was built in the 10th century by the chola king. This temple stands tall and strong against all the odds like earthquakes and other natural calamities. The temple gopuram is 216 feet long and the vimana alone weighs 81 tons. The Shadow of the gopuram doesn’t fall on the floor at noon. There is a big statue of Nandi which is 12ft high carved out of a single stone. The entire temple is an example for art, architecture, literature standing as an example of Tamil Engineering and architectural skills. 

Conclusion

Tanjore Big Temple is the tastemant for the Chola architecture. The temple is standing tall and strong over 1000 years against all odds. 

Great Wall of China - Describe a Place of Historical Importance Model Answer 3

Today, I'm pleased to talk about a historical landmark that has left an indelible impression on the pages of history: the Great Wall of China.

What the place is
The Great Wall of China is a famous defensive system that stretches over 13,000 miles across northern China. This magnificent monument is known for its historical significance, architectural splendor, and function in protecting ancient China from external threats.

Where it is located
The Great Wall of China winds through China's various environments, including deserts, mountains, and plateaus. Its path runs from the east coast at Shanhaiguan to the west shore at Jiayuguan, passing through several provinces.

What is the significance of the place
This massive wall is historically significant because it demonstrates ancient China's perseverance and engineering expertise. Originally erected to protect against invaders in the 7th century BC, the wall saw several extensions and restorations under different dynasties. It has witnessed the rise and fall of empires, wars, and trading activity over the ages. The Great Wall has come to represent China's tenacity and fortitude.

Conclusion
Finally, the Great Wall of China's historical, architectural, and cultural significance make it an unrivaled marvel that exemplifies the grandeur of human accomplishment. It is more than just a physical barrier; it is a testimony to a nation's aspirations. The Great Wall of China continues to inspire people around the world, reminding us of the power of human determination in influencing the course of history.

IELTS speaking part 3 - Describe a place of historical importance follow up questions

Follow-up questions for “Describe a place of historical importance” are given below. In the actual exam,  The IELTS speaking part 3 - follow up question session is conducted for 4-5 minutes  where you have to discuss questions about a general topic or question on your cue card.

1. What do you think of the future trend of historic places?
I believe that the future of historic places will be a careful balance of preservation and adaptation. It is critical to preserve our cultural history while incorporating historical locations into modern life as society changes. This guarantees that we learn from the past while also looking forward, resulting in a rich tapestry that connects generations and develops a sense of identity and continuity.

2. Will the government strengthen its protection towards historic places?
Increasing the protection of historic sites is unquestionably necessary. Governments have a critical role in preserving our history for future generations. By strengthening legislation, allocating resources, and raising public awareness, we can collectively ensure that these priceless artifacts survive as windows into our past and sources of inspiration for the future. And yes I believe that government will strengthen its protection of historic places.

3. What changes are brought about by the historic place in the local economy and people?
Historic sites have a significant impact on local economies and people. They have the potential to revitalize tourism by providing employment and businesses that revitalize neighborhoods. Furthermore, they instill a sense of pride in people, establishing a stronger connection to their heritage. These locations establish ties, foster cultural preservation, and lay the groundwork for long-term growth by commemorating history, making them vital assets to both the economy and the people.

4. What is the effect of tourists to such a place?
Tourists have a significant impact on such sites. Their visits energize local economies by creating income and job opportunities. However, a delicate balance must be maintained to avoid over-tourism, which might harm the originality of the location. Responsible tourism, directed by appropriate legislation, can ensure the preservation of a location's cultural and historical relevance while also allowing tourists to enjoy its beauty and significance.

5. Describe a famous place in your country.
The Taj Mahal, a worldwide known masterpiece, is one of India's most iconic attractions. Emperor Shah Jahan erected this stunning white marble tomb in Agra in honor of his beloved wife. Its elaborate architectural aspects, such as delicate carvings and ornate domes, attest to the grandeur and artistic prowess of the Mughal era. The Taj Mahal's tranquil reflection in the surrounding water produces a beautiful spectacle, especially at sunrise and dusk. Aside from its architectural magnificence, the Taj Mahal represents a romantic story and is a symbol of enduring love. It attracts millions of tourists each year, who are captivated by its historical significance, architectural brilliance, and the emotions it provokes.
