IELTS Speaking part 3 - describe a special day that made you happy follow-up questions
The follow-up question round starts once you complete the cue card section. These follow-up questions take 5 to 6 minutes to complete and are mainly connected to the cue card topic you were given.
1. What are a few things that make you happy?
There are several things that bring me happiness. Here, I'd like to highlight the top three things that I find most appealing. Spending time with my friends and family comes first. Secondly, being surrounded by nature, followed by eating ice cream and chocolates.
2. Do you believe that engaging in artistic activities might make people happier? (Why/Why not)
I thoroughly agree that engaging in artistic activities makes people happy. They may set out time for themselves, allowing them to relax and take a break from their daily job.
3. Do you think people who have more talent are happier than others? (Why/Why not)
I disagree with that statement, though. Happiness, in my opinion, is not talent-dependent. There is no specific ability needed to be happy; instead, various people discover diverse methods to feel joy. For instance, I like being in nature and traveling, and I don't need any special abilities to do either.
4. Do you think money makes people happy?
According to me, money is used to purchase certain basic necessities as well as items for people's entertainment, all of which contribute directly or indirectly to happiness. However, there are other cases where money is meaningless and unable to purchase any form of happiness.
5. Are the things or events that make people happy today the same as several decades ago?
There has been a gradual change of interests as well as events because of which people find themselves happy. People used to find satisfaction in the little things back in the day, like conversing with family and friends or spending a few nice moments. Today, however, depending on the age group, individuals find happiness through travel, gaming, and other similar hobbies.
6. Why do people feel happy when they are with members of their family?
When people are around their family or friends, they often feel satisfied. This is mostly because they have a wonderful relationship that they share right away and are open to sharing everything. Close friends and family members may engage freely with them, and family is supportive in any circumstance that makes them happy.
7. What are some examples of family activities that make people happy?
There are several such family-friendly activities. Playing cards, playing board games, having a family chat, watching movies or television, and many more are among the activities that I find pleasurable and make me happy.
8. Some people say the happiest time in people’s lives is the period when they are at school. Do you agree?
Yes, I thoroughly agree that the time spent at school is the happiest. There are various reasons behind it. First off, a youngster may enjoy themselves to the maximum since they don't have any responsibilities. Additionally, they are free from concern for what other people may think. These are the primary factors, in my opinion, that may make individuals happy.
Question 9: Do young people and older people find happiness in the same things?
No, I don't believe that both generations enjoy the same thing. The degree of happiness that a particular person experiences is significantly influenced by the age generation difference. The older generation enjoys playing with their grandchildren and participating in religious activities. The younger generation, in contrast, enjoys playing video games and similar games.
10: When you are older, what kind of things will bring you happiness?
When I become a bit older, I suppose I could find happiness in tiny things, like drinking coffee and watching the rain. spending time in nature, taking a long drive, and several more comparable activities. In addition, as I grow older, I would want to discover enjoyment in the mountains and the sky.
11. Do you think people in the past were happier than they are now?
People's lives have changed drastically throughout time, which has raised the bar for expectations and demands. As a result, there are more issues, which makes people less pleased. Additionally, technology has a significant impact on how unhappy individuals are, in some way. Also, the responsibility people have just made them feel grimmer.
12. What makes people happy?
Everyone has their own unique notion of happiness. In my perspective, achieving one's goals typically makes individuals happy. For instance, a student might be happy to receive good exam results. Similar to this, someone who has been searching for a high-profile position for a while would be happy to land one.
13. Do you believe that people used to define happiness in a different way in the past, or that the concept of happiness hasn’t changed with the passage of time?
I think the idea of happiness has remained constant over time. But as technology has advanced, people's ways of expressing satisfaction have evolved. For instance, the entire family and friends will be pleased when a child receives good results on his exam. Parents will share sweets with their neighbours, creating a festive atmosphere.
14. Do you believe that old people can be happier than young people?
Everything is dependent on each person's mentality. Those who just think about now suffer in the future. The people who practice patience and constantly consider the broader picture mature gracefully. In the same circumstances, old age might be pleasant for some people but lonely for others. Everything comes down to individual psychology.
15. What do you have to do to achieve long-term happiness?
Ironically, it appears that being able to focus on the present moment is essential. But the concept of "long-term happiness" seems contradictory to me; I believe that happiness is far more changeable than that. It more closely resembles a passing state of mind. Conventional thinking, in my opinion, holds that happiness can only come about indirectly through other pursuits in life. So focusing on efforts on good causes, one might find some enjoyment along the way.
16. What are the ways in which people deal with unhappiness?
There are many people who prefer to spend some time in nature to deal with their anxieties and depression. Moreover, there are others who perform yoga in order to find happiness. A good way to deal with sadness is to get together with peer groups.
17. Do you believe that material possessions make people happy?
Instead of considering riches and belongings as a measure of pleasure, viewing them as a sign of achievement produces much better results for life satisfaction. In my opinion, materialistic things cannot make one happy, it may inspire one to lead a better life.
