Describe a time you were friendly to someone you didn’t like Model answer 1
Introduction
I am a sociable individual who enjoys engaging in open communication and expressing my thoughts and viewpoints. Occasionally, I encounter individuals who exhibit selfish and impolite behavior. Their unpleasant demeanor is something I find it difficult to endure or accept.
When and where it happened
I traveled to a neighboring state last weekend for a crucial business meeting where I aimed to finalize a significant deal on behalf of my company.
Who he/she was
A fellow passenger on my journey displayed extremely rude behavior, including loud shouting and the use of offensive language. His conduct was highly irritating to me, as well as to other passengers who were visibly displeased with his actions.
Why didn't you like this person
I disliked that person solely due to his boisterous manner and impolite conduct towards others. He shouted at everyone, causing discomfort to fellow travelers throughout the journey.
And explain why you were friendly to him/her on that occasion.
I had to maintain a friendly demeanor towards him because he was seated right next to me, and many of his actions were having an impact on me. I made an effort to engage him in a courteous conversation, attempting to persuade him that his behavior was causing inconvenience to other passengers.
Conclusion
Although he didn't completely change his behavior after my request, he did make an effort to lower his voice. So, in this situation, I found it necessary to act in a friendly manner.
Describe a time you were friendly to someone you didn’t like Model answer 2
Introduction
Many people like to be friends with those who have similar interests and personalities because it can be hard to get along with people who are very different from them.
When and where it happened
Unfortunately, one day coming back from school, I had an accident, and my leg got fractured. Now I was on bed rest for almost one month and couldn’t attend school.
Who he/she was
I want to tell you about a time when I had to spend time with a friend I didn't really like. This friend, Raj, lives next door to me and is also in my class, but we weren't close.
Why didn't you like this person
We were very different. He was quiet and not very fun, while I was outgoing and liked to have a good time. Because of this, we had separate sets of friends at school and in our neighborhood.
And explain why you were friendly to him/her on that occasion.
My mom asked Raj to come to our house every evening and help me with my studies, even though he didn't really want to. I had to be polite and formal with him, even though I didn't want to. He acted a bit arrogant when he taught me, but I had to put up with it because I needed his help.
Conclusion
To be honest, after few meetings, we got used to each other. Despite his boring company. Now I can say he is my friend as well. But still not a good friend. Overall it was the time when I had to be friendly with someone I don’t like.
Describe a time you were friendly to someone you didn’t like Model answer 3
Introduction
Many of us tend to hang out with people who share our interests and personalities because it's easier. It can be tough to get along with those who are very different from us. Today, I want to share a story about when I was really nice and polite to someone I didn't actually like.
When and where it happened
I'm familiar with her behavior because we spent three months together. We both trained in computer technology at the same company two years ago, and that's when I got to know her personality. Last month, she attended a party with her father that my dad hosted for his old friends.
Who he/she was
Her name is Harleen, and she resides in Chandigarh. I know her because she's the daughter of a friend of my dad. She's been living in Chandigarh since she was a child. While she's not rude or arrogant and doesn't display attitude towards others
Why didn't you like this person
While she's not rude or arrogant and doesn't display an attitude towards others, I dislike her because she tends to manipulate people for her own advantage and distracts them.
And explain why you were friendly to him/her on that occasion.
She was in a lovely pink dress and high heels. I told her to watch out because the stairs were really slippery. Sadly, a kid spilled water on the stairs, and when she went down, she didn't notice. Her foot slipped, and she got hurt pretty bad.
Conclusion
At that time, I took her to the hospital and cared for her for a week and I behaved very friendly with her, as a human I thought it was my duty.
Describe a time you were friendly to someone you didn’t like Model answer 4
Introduction
During childhood, I had a classmate, Rajesh, who was very full of himself. He was one of my classmates in school. Apart from this, I have been kind to every kind of person I have ever met in my entire life but this situation is based on school life memories.
When and where it happened
About a month before his 9th-grade final exams, he had an accident and couldn't attend school for a while. When he got better, he asked some of us to help catch him up on what he missed.
Who he/she was
As I said before, his name was Rajesh in my classroom.
Why didn't you like this person
He always made people feel like they were less important than him. That's why, when we were in school, I did my best to stay away from him.
And explain why you were friendly to him/her on that occasion.
One day, I talked to a friend about Rajesh and said he deserved what was happening to him. My mom overheard me and advised me to help him, no matter what he'd done before. I wasn't sure at first, but I listened to her. So, I called Rajesh and told him I'd study with him for an hour after class every day until the exams. During those study sessions, I got to know him better and realized he wasn't really arrogant; he just struggled to express himself well. He used the wrong words and came off as rude unintentionally. He didn't even realize why people didn't like him. After the exams, I started inviting him to my house with my other friends, and as they got to know him, they became friends too. We're all good friends now and hang out often. I asked my mom why she told me to help him, and she simply said it was the right thing to do.
Conclusion
Being nice to our friends isn't necessarily true kindness; being kind to people we don't like is real kindness. That's because we do it without expecting anything in return.
IELTS speaking part 3 - Describe a time you were friendly to someone you didn’t like follow up questions
Follow-up questions for “Describe a time you were friendly to someone you didn’t like” are given below. In the actual exam, the IELTS speaking part 3 - follow up question session is conducted for for about 4-5 minutes where you have to discuss questions about a general topic or question on your cue card.
1. Why are people friendly with the person they don’t like?
I think the main reason is that they do not want the person to know that they don’t like him/her. People feel they might need a favour from the person in the future and if the person knows that they don’t like him/her, he or she won’t help them.
2. What kinds of people are usually friendly?
I think most people in the world are really nice. I also feel that folks in the countryside are usually friendlier than those in cities because city life can be very busy and stressful.
3. What are the differences between being friendly and polite?
I think politeness is about words, while being friendly is about our actions. I can decline something politely, but I wouldn’t consider myself friendly if I did so.
4. What do you think about people who are always straightforward?
I think these people are actually the best people in the world for one can always expect an honest answer from them. However, I also believe that it is nearly impossible to be straightforward all the time.
5. What are your views on friendship?
I think having friends is a wonderful thing for people. Friends bring happiness in good times and help us when we're feeling down. They make special moments even better and lift our spirits.
