Introduction

My parents have given me a number of gifts, all of which are very close to me. However, there is one gift that I hold very close. 

When you got it?

My first cell phone arrived when I was around 16 years old. A Motorola Flip phone was given. Back then, mobile phones were much less sophisticated and dissimilar from smartphones today.

How you got it?

I didn't actually purchase it. When I finished my school exams, my parents gave it to me as a gift. When I graduated, they bought it for me. Because some but not all of my friends had mobile phones, I can still clearly recall it. At that time, mobile phones were just starting to gain significant traction and became practically indispensable, but people used them differently.

What you used it for?

The number of calls and SMS text messages we used to exchange has decreased, and I now primarily send texts or emails through different platforms rather than making many actual phone calls.

Explain how you felt when you got it

It was the newest model at the time, so it had some new features that my friends' phones didn't have, so when my parents gave it to me I felt incredibly proud and happy. Before I replaced it with an iPhone, I believe I owned it for about three years. However, it was still unique because it was my first mobile phone, which made it significant to me.

Introduction

A mobile phone is now considered to be a necessity for every person. We are unable to imagine life without this gadget.

When you got it

Despite the fact that mobile phones have been around for a while, I only recently got my own after much effort. I still recall getting my very first cell phone. I was in the last year of my graduation seven or eight years ago. To stay in touch with their families, all of my friends used to have mobile phones. I also intended to purchase one, but I did not have enough money in my pocket to do so.

How you got it

My parents realized I needed a phone even though I didn't ask them to buy one for me. They decided to give me one cell phone for my birthday. They purchased a Nokia 6600, the newest mobile phone model from Nokia. To be completely honest, I never asked them how much that cost, but one day while looking for other papers, I came across the purchase receipt, and that's when I learned it cost them Rs. 9800/-. The model was pricey and had all the features.

What you used it for

My first cell phone was equipped with the most cutting-edge technology available at the time, but today's mobile phones come with a wide range of options. It had 4 GB of memory, but I'm currently using a phone with 128 GB of built-in storage. Having all the necessary information readily available helps me. Like any professional Nokia DSLR camera, the camera quality is also excellent.

Explain how you felt when you got it

Given that it was a very popular model at the time, I was overjoyed to receive that phone. It came equipped with the newest features, including an 8 MP camera, a media player, and other built-in programs like Facebook and YouTube.

Introduction

Mobile devices have integrated seamlessly into our daily lives. I'm going to tell you a little bit about my first mobile phone, or at least what I can remember of it since I don't think I first got one until seven or eight years ago, so my memory is a little hazy.

When you got it

Anyway, as for how I ended up with my first mobile phone, well, I had been nagging my mother to get me one for a while, but she kept saying, quite correctly, that I was too young and didn't really need one. But when I reached the age of about 15, I believe, she gave in and took me shopping to select one.

How you got it

We didn't know much about mobile phones at the time, so when we entered the store, I recall simply asking the salesperson to suggest one to us. Because I wasn't particularly interested in having a lot of features all I wanted to use it for, you know, was to call and text people we ultimately decided to go with the cheapest and most basic phone they offered.

What you used it for

I spent about 200 rupees on a leather case to protect it because I took pretty good care of it, and it lasted for a long time. Before switching to a better one, I used it for maybe three or four years playing games and communicating with my classmates through calls and messages. And I believe I still have it at home, hidden in a drawer.

Explain how you felt when you got it

As for how I felt when I received it, well, in reality, I didn't feel overly excited or anything; rather, it was just a stronger sense of independence, and of course, I was grateful to my mother for giving it to me.

IELTS speaking part 3 - Describe your first mobile phone - Follow up questions

Question 1: Do you like having a mobile phone?

Answer: Yes, it is both very useful and necessary in today's world. Without one, it would be challenging to survive in the modern world. It is simply so helpful in every situation.

Question 2: Is it a good or a bad thing to have a mobile phone? Why?

Answer: It doesn't matter to me whether it's good or bad because that's how we communicate and conduct business these days. On their mobile devices, people take pictures, conduct informational searches, conduct online shopping, conduct banking, communicate for work, and do many other things. It is very significant; without it, many tasks would be challenging. It is similar to owning a car.

Question 3: What can you do with a mobile phone?

Answer: As I previously mentioned, you can conduct online information searches, pay bills and conduct banking transactions, shop and make purchases online, and, obviously, communicate with people you know by email, text, and phone calls. Depending on your interests, many phones let you watch videos, listen to music, navigate, and use other apps. On my phone, I have about 50 different apps installed, allowing me to perform tasks like video chat, learning English, translating, and more.

Question 4: Do old and young people use mobile phones in the same way?

Answer: No, I believe that in general older people still call someone when they want to talk. Text messages are preferred by millennials. I'm unsure if older people take as many pictures with their smartphones or use as many apps or features as younger people do. Older people still view a mobile phone as primarily a means of interpersonal communication. Younger people use it as a daily tool to help them accomplish tasks as part of everyday life.

Question 5: Do most people have mobile phones in your country?

Answer: Yes, the majority of people in my country own smartphones. The government is working hard to provide Internet access via cell phones to even the most remote regions of India, and smartphones are now very reasonably priced.

Question 6: Are children allowed to use mobile phones in your country?

Answer: Unfortunately, it is common to see kids using phones these days. To keep their kids entertained, parents allow them to watch videos and play games on their smartphones. However, in order to maintain order, in schools and colleges children are not permitted to use cell phones.

Question 7: What are the effects when someone is making a lot of noise by using a cell phone in a public place?

Answer: I find it annoying when someone is using their cell phone loudly in a public setting. It causes a lot of disruption and is annoying, especially in settings like hospitals, houses of worship, libraries, and classrooms. To avoid causing a commotion, cellphone use in public places needs to be done with consideration.
