Model Sample Answer 1 Band 8 - Hosting sporting events such as the Olympics and the World Cup can bring benefits to the host countries. How far do you agree with this statement? Use your own examples to support.

Events like the Olympics, World Cup, Extreme Games, and even the US Super Bowl present extraordinary possibilities for countries around the world. These cultural relics have the power to either bring an economic windfall or a public relations disaster to a country. These two arguments will be discussed in this essay.

Before anything else, keep in mind that although the event's host and the media from all over the world are paying attention, that doesn't mean it will get a positive overview. This is due to the fact that even though the nation  is receiving a significant amount of global attention, the media will also frequently broadcast problematic news. Sochi, Russia, held the Winter Olympics in 2014. The sportsmen are receiving considerable press, but the media is also focusing on the controversial laws governing homosexuality. As a consequence, the state risks both benefits and adverse attention internationally.

Furthermore, unless completely depreciated thereafter, the cost of constructing enormous infrastructures required to hold major events can outweigh the advantages. This is largely attributable to the fact that facilities for hosting international sporting events, such as stadiums, Olympic parks, ski runs, and many more require substantial capital expenditures, most of which are funded by the public sector. As part of preparations for the 2002 Commonwealth Games, Manchester's city council commissioned an athletics stadium, which was subsequently converted and sold to the city's most successful professional football team, Manchester City. The initial investment in such infrastructure can be reimbursed through efficient, equitable, and cost-effective management.

In recapitulation, a host city or country can reap many benefits from sponsoring such gatherings, but only provided the economy is managed well and there are no embarrassing secrets that can be dredged out by the public.

Model Sample Answer 2 Band 7.5 - Hosting sporting events such as the Olympics and the World Cup can bring benefits to the host countries. How far do you agree with this statement? Use your own examples to support.

Without a shadow of a doubt, sports have the power to unite people all across the globe. It's a great way to show community spirit and represent your country as one. Countries see substantial economic growth as a result of hosting major international sporting events like the Olympics, Fifa World Cup, or the Super Bowl. The costs to the host country, while often worthwhile, might be substantial with some economic developments.

A country must spend millions on researching, budgeting, and presentations to organisational committees before staging a significant athletic event. Advisors, conferences, and travel cost countries $50 million to $100 million. Before designating a host nation, this is undertaken. A receiving nation must find an ample enough location to hold all ceremonies and improve and upgrade all athletic facilities, especially cycling tracks and ski-jumping stadiums. Governments must also establish highways, railroad lines, airports, and hotels. Around $50 billion was estimated, up from $5 billion. Rio de Janeiro continues to address economic challenges well after the 2016 Summer Olympics. The international event valued Brazil $20 billion. The city developed motorways, train lines, and long-term equipment. Most of these expenses exceed Brazil's finances.

Hosting international athletic events may benefit governments economically. Sports events can boost tourism, the economy, and consumer spending if properly prepared. Economic growth in Qatar and the surrounding area is anticipated as a consequence of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which will be held in the city of Doha that summer. Stadium, subway, airport, and port infrastructure renovations cost billions. Qatar and the neighbouring area now have more jobs. Most growth is expected in banking and building. Its resurgence before the World Cup is boosting investor hope.

In conclusion, hosting significant international athletic events always costs a lot. Towns and states that want to lead the world stage must always search for long-term policies to avoid financial instability.

Model Sample Answer 3 Band 7 - Hosting sporting events such as the Olympics and the World Cup can bring benefits to the host countries. How far do you agree with this statement? Use your own examples to support.

The World Cup and the Olympics are two examples of major international sporting events that attract intense competition from countries hoping to gain international prestige by playing host. The advantages are undeniable, but I think the government should focus on other issues first.

Hosting major international events like the World Cup or the Olympics has many positive effects on a host government's economy and infrastructure. Tourists from all over the world flock to these events, necessitating accommodations, dining options, and shops selling local wares. Our best efforts to accommodate these visitors will be appreciated long after they have left. Hotel refurbishments may generate a favourable return on investment during the occasion , and then substantial profits in the years following. Rapidly, rising construction expansion is the other major trend. Developing countries will have to spend funds on transportation upgrades such as new roads and airports, as well as brand new sports facilities like swimming pools and stadiums. China, for instance, renovated many ageing structures in preparation for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

In contrast, the member state must expend a great deal of effort and money to stage these events. It is necessary for authorities to waste a substantial portion of their national budgets in the years preceding these prestigious events, often in the billions of dollars. After each tournament, the private label facilities sit empty. Brazil is a prime witness to this phenomenon because many of the swimming pools and recreation centres that were used during the 2014 Olympics have been abandoned and are now falling apart. The need for new schools for economically disadvantaged students and adequate healthcare for the elderly are two other issues that have been brewing for some time. The country and its people would be in better shape and enjoy a higher standard of living if the state had prioritised these matters.

To sum up , I think the government should not spend such a large portion of its budget on hosting international events that have little lasting impact due to the astronomical costs involved. It would be more cost-effective to hold these gatherings in the same countries year after year, allowing the investment in new infrastructure to pay for itself.

Model Sample Answer 4 Band 6.5 - Hosting sporting events such as the Olympics and the World Cup can bring benefits to the host countries. How far do you agree with this statement? Use your own examples to support.

The pros and cons of having a sporting event in one country as opposed to another is a topic of ongoing discussion in the modern era. Some may argue that the cons outweigh the pros, but I believe there are numerous positive outcomes for host nations when major international events are held there. In this essay, I will examine both sides of the debate and discuss the ways in which they can be overcome.

First and foremost, the money provided by international organisations can be used to upgrade infrastructure in countries so that they conform to international standards. The countries that want to play host to these athletes can do things like construct sports stadiums and sports villages. Furthermore, the people of that nation can earn money by selling goods to this massive population, and the government can promote the state to visitors from other locations.

However, there are those who are opposed to this plan on the grounds that opening up their  territories to tourists could have unintended consequences for the locals. As an example, they worry that these vacationers could bring in infectious diseases. In addition, some societies, notably Muslim nations, do not promote sports. They care nothing about this issue as a result.

To sum up, it is suggested that emerging economies compete for sponsorship for these events in order to improve the quality of infrastructure in their countries and to encourage younger generations to participate in sporting events. The initiative's goal is to keep people physically and mentally fit.
