Model Sample Answer 1 Band 8 - In many cities, planners tend to arrange shops, schools, offices, and homes in specific areas and separate them from each other. Do you think the advantages of this policy outweigh the disadvantages?
Urban development is incorporated by city planners to facilitate tourism, growing populations, and citizens' needs for modern public facilities. In this quest, they organize shops, educational institutes, offices, and residential complexes in distinct areas.
This policy has both advantages and disadvantages, but overall it is beneficial. There are numerous benefits.
The first and foremost reason is that planning aids in traffic management. Because public transportation is an important component of urban planning, such locations are usually well served by it. People who drive their own cars can carpool when all offices are in one location. For instance, if six residents of a residential complex need to go to work in the same area, each can drive a day per week. It would be beneficial to both people and the environment. This would also keep residential areas free of noise and traffic, making them desirable places to live.
Scrutinizing the drawbacks, It encourages the use of automobiles because people must travel long distances to go shopping or to their places of employment. This is harmful to the environment. It also wastes students' time because they must spend a significant amount of time commuting to and from school. Some areas may be very close to schools, while others may be very far away and unsuitable.
To summarise, I believe that careful urban planning is a necessity of the day.
Shopping centers and offices should be located in separate areas, away from residential areas. However, each residential area should be served by a nearby school so that students can benefit. Overall, the benefits of city planning outweigh the drawbacks.

Model Sample Answer 2 Band 7.5 - In many cities, planners tend to arrange shops, schools, offices, and homes in specific areas and separate them from each other. Do you think the advantages of this policy outweigh the disadvantages?
In this modernizing era, in order to facilitate the inhabitants, the majority of the constructions in the cities are thoroughly planned. Different and distinct sites are allocated for residential areas, markets, hospitals, schools, and offices. Such developments make a developing nation into a developed nation. It does, however, come at the expense of increased travel time and cost to residents. In my perception the merits of the segregated zones outweigh the demerits.
According to my perception, planned cities are always better places to live because the development is better managed. People can enjoy the tranquility of healthy living because the commercial space is far away from residential. Children can play in parks free of commercial pollution. For instance, all large cities in Afghanistan have separate industrial areas to better conduct commercial activities and protect people from dangerous influences. Likewise, factories are not tied to faraway apartment complexes, so they work well on the night shift. A well-thought-out urban plan with proper area allocation brings many benefits to residents as well as business people.
On other hand, with the above-mentioned advantages comes the problem of long commutes for the residents. As a result, which schools and offices are located at different locations from the housing complexes, it takes more time and effort to get there. Similarly, low-wage workers cannot afford to travel to the job site on a daily basis. They are looking for shelters near the factory where they work. However, many industrial units have addressed this issue by constructing worker accommodations within the industrial boundary.
To put it in the nutshell, the benefits of a well- thought map of the city add to people’s inconvenience in terms of travel and fuel expense to reach daily destinations as it forms a calm, healthy, and well-managed lifestyle that outweighs the drawbacks.

Model Sample Answer 3 Band 7 - In many cities, planners tend to arrange shops, schools, offices, and homes in specific areas and separate them from each other. Do you think the advantages of this policy outweigh the disadvantages?
To better serve the residents, the concept of town planning has been introduced in recent years. The idea is to designate a specific area for each segment. This separates schools, hospitals, and offices into distinct locations, resulting in a managed city. However, this increases the community's travel time and adds to the administrative costs that the community must bear. However, I believe the benefits far outweigh the drawbacks.
Most importantly, the planned site is an ideal place for residents to live. A well-developed society offers the best accommodation, medical facilities, amusement parks and clean living conditions. City officials have divided areas to present a better perspective of society. Baria Town, for example, is considered the best residential area in Pakistan. Parks, hospitals and residential areas are separated. They develop societies away from industrial areas to protect the area from pollution. They also claim to have better security measures in place for their residents.
Travel time to school, work, the hospital, on the other hand, is increasing. Similarly, authorities in the area are now charging fees for the services they provide.
As a result, the cost of living is rising for residents. For example, Bahria Town collects monthly security, maintenance, and tipping fees from its customers. Many people are willing to pay such costs to provide a healthy lifestyle for their families in order to live a peaceful and secure life.
To summarise, daily living expenses for the community have increased in the form of travel, lodging, security, and entertainment. The householder must now pay an additional fee to use the facilities. However, residents prefer to bear such costs because they want to provide the best living conditions for their families in order to better nurture them. In this regard, I believe that the benefits of urban development outweigh the drawbacks.

Model Sample Answer 4 Band 6.5 - In many cities, planners tend to arrange shops, schools, offices, and homes in specific areas and separate them from each other. Do you think the advantages of this policy outweigh the disadvantages?
Some city planners have suggested that cities should create separate neighborhoods for shopping malls, educational institutions, office buildings, and residential areas. I admit that there are downsides to this proposal, but I would argue that in general there are upsides.
It is true that dividing land into different uses can lead to environmental issues. If students and commuters must travel long distances to school and work on a daily basis, it means that there is a high volume of transportation involved, which increases greenhouse emissions. This is especially true for those who choose private cars as their mode of transportation, which consume a large amount of fossil fuel each year and contribute to global warming.
On the other hand, dividing areas by purpose can help to alleviate traffic congestion. If the majority of citizens live in the same neighborhood and work in the same direction in another district, they should walk the same route every day. This means that rush hour traffic moves more quickly and efficiently. This is exacerbated when transit agencies reset traffic lights to reduce wait times, depending on the direction of the main traffic flow. In addition to this, if such an action is taken into consideration it will eventually help the government to surge the economy. Various types of buildings need certain sorts of infrastructures, such as sewage systems and power and water supply facilities. It is the duty of the government to concentrate on one particular kind of infrastructure in one region instead of constructing buildings randomly in cities.
To sum up, I truly believe that the proposal to separate different facilities may have some drawbacks, but I believe it is generally positive.
