Model Sample Answer 1 Band 8 - In some cultures, children are often told they can achieve anything if they try hard enough. What are the advantages and disadvantages of giving children this message?
It's been claimed that nothing is greater than success. Therefore, here some experts are of the viewpoint that young people should exert themselves in order to accomplish their objectives. There are several merits and demerits for children who adhere to this adage. Both of these aspects will be covered in the ensuing paragraphs.
Scrutinising the merits, the primary reason for such an event is that it may serve as an inspiration to young people who believe that their innate skills will determine their future success. For example, if a group of young people truly understands the meaning of hard work, then nothing is impossible. If they succeed in following their inner talent through hard work, they will surely be able to enhance their talent and can develop an expertise, even in a field as competitive as football, which is quite challenging since it is an international game for which youngsters of this generation are fond. Most importantly, the importance of recognising efforts extends far beyond its function as a motivation.
Conversely, the major disadvantage is that diligence ensures success. It may mislead children into wasting time and effort on the things where hard work plays little part. A young person who dreams of being a famous actor can, for example, spend years honing their looks and acting skills despite the fact that they have no natural art of acting but still expect to make it big one day. In a similar way, a great and distinct sense of aesthetics is required of most artists.
In the nutshell, it can be said that motivating youngsters to persevere through challenges can be done by teaching them that their efforts will inevitably bear fruit. However, when perseverance isn't the key, such instruction may backfire.

Model Sample Answer 2 Band 7.5 - In some cultures, children are often told they can achieve anything if they try hard enough. What are the advantages and disadvantages of giving children this message?
Children are motivated with a saying that success can only be achieved through hard work. An adage like that has pros and cons. In the below paragraphs, we'll look at both sides of the argument.
On the one hand, this message has a lot of positive implications for today's kids. Children, being at the outset of their life and believing that anything is possible, have a lot of dreams for obvious reasons. Children are motivated to improve themselves via diligence and optimism when adults support their children's interests and encourage them to pursue their aspirations. This is beneficial because it assists children in maintaining their self-esteem even when they fall short. This means that as young people grow into adults and begin to work for their goals, they will unavoidably meet difficulties. They will not lose hope or drive if they are taught that perseverance in completing a task is the key to success.
However, it could be challenging for children who internalise this message. To begin, they may place unrealistic expectations on themselves but still believe they can achieve them due to their limitless belief in their own abilities. It's not uncommon for people to have unrealistic expectations for themselves, such as becoming a millionaire by the time they turn fifteen. In addition to this, it's possible that young people will overextend themselves and harm themselves by working too hard. Children who put in excessive study time in an effort to achieve academic success but who also experience mental health issues including depression, anxiety, and isolation are prime examples.
In a nutshell, it's good to reassure kids that their efforts will pay off in the end, but doing so can also lead to negative outcomes like fatigue and dissatisfaction.

Model Sample Answer 3 Band 7 - In some cultures, children are often told they can achieve anything if they try hard enough. What are the advantages and disadvantages of giving children this message?
These days, it has become crucial to instil in kids the importance of putting in work to achieve goals. It's true that there would be advantages and disadvantages to this happening. In the following paragraphs both sides are explained.
Examining the benefits, it is said that the earlier in life a child learns the importance of sticking with a task despite setbacks, the better off that child will be. Putting in the work is the only surefire approach to avoid or triumph over life's inevitable difficulties. It is undeniable that we need to equip our kids to successfully navigate any challenges they may face in the future. However, only children who are trained from an early age to persevere through adversity are equipped with the resilience to accept defeat and press on with renewed zeal. Therefore, these young people will attempt again and grow from their failures until they reach their goals.
On the other hand, the main argument against this strategy is that it could teach children that hard work is directly proportional to success. So, despite their best efforts, individuals may eventually become unable to bear the pain of disappointment. This could cause them to feel terrible despair, which would only serve to perpetuate their downward spiral.
In conclusion, preparing children to face the problems of adulthood may involve encouraging them to work hard enough to acquire what they want. But this lesson might send children down a dangerous road if it teaches them that success is the inevitable reward for their efforts.

Model Sample Answer 4 Band 6.5 - In some cultures, children are often told they can achieve anything if they try hard enough. What are the advantages and disadvantages of giving children this message?
In some societies, parents encourage their children by telling them they can achieve anything they set their minds to. The minds of their children may develop in various ways as a result of hearing this message. Numerous pros and cons can be found within such a perspective. In the ensuing paragraphs both the arguments are examined.
Considering the benefits, from a societal perspective, it's crucial to instil in kids the message that they shouldn't give up while facing challenges. We're having them work for it, to pay attention to subtleties, and ultimately succeed in what they set out to do. Jordan Romero, then just 13 years old, is a living example; he and his parents summited Everest, the highest mountain in the world. He demonstrated that young people can do extraordinary things if they set their minds to it.
However, the problem is that there are occasions when it is actually counterproductive. Having the necessary physical faculties is not always sufficient; in other cases, talent is required. When kids put up their best effort and still fall short, they can develop depression. Children's mental and physical development can suffer if they're subjected to undue amounts of pressure, as can be the case with overly enthusiastic parents. If achieving our goals requires a significant financial investment on our part, we will find ourselves in the same economic predicament once again.
In a nutshell, we are showing them how the real world functions. Getting there isn't easy; you have to put in a lot of time and energy. After all that effort, if you still don't succeed, you may take comfort in knowing that you gave it your all and did the best you could.
