Model Sample Answer 1 Band 8 - Individuals can do nothing to improve the environment. Only governments and large companies can make a difference. What extent do you agree or disagree?

It might be debated whether or not regular people have any responsibility for preserving the planet. There are others who believe that in order to save Earth, governments and corporations must shoulder an enormous responsibility. Both of them, in my view, need to do their part to protect the environment.

In the first place, it is correct that legislation protecting habitats should be enacted. All businesses, no matter how big or little, are in business to increase their wealth and earnings. They are more concerned with making money than they are with preventing catastrophic climate change. For instance, pollutants from industry cause severe air pollution in urban centres. Furthermore, there are industries that dump their garbage into waterways. As a result, the environment and aquatic life will suffer. This, in turn, will have repercussions for the planet's biosphere. Governments should thus impose heavy fines on businesses to encourage them to cut back on emissions and toxic waste.

Second, government entities should use social media to promote green behaviour. Therefore, advocating for recycling, decreasing plastic usage, and urging garden tree planting. The ideal approach is this, in my opinion, because forcing them to do it is like allowing reckless parents to have children. Overpopulated countries like India value individual freedom, making it more challenging to impose rules on the populous. In addition to this, individuals should be encouraged to use public transportation rather than driving.

In conclusion, governments should prohibit legislation that mandates emission and harmful material reductions by businesses. But individuals do their share by opting for eco-friendly lifestyles and taking advantage of public transportation.

Model Sample Answer 2 Band 7.5 - Individuals can do nothing to improve the environment. Only governments and large companies can make a difference. What extent do you agree or disagree?

Only large corporations and governments can effect lasting change in the environment; individuals can do nothing to help. Since many different people have made important advances in this area, I strongly disagree with this viewpoint.

To begin with, many people all around the world have been working tirelessly on their own, for their own personal causes, to enhance the environment, and many have been rather successful. They have improved the ecosystem while working primarily alone with little help from the government. Tulsi Gowda, 72, who was recently honoured with India's highest civilian honour, the Padma, is a prime example. He cultivated a forest from scratch by planting more than 30,000 plants.

Second, self-employed people can start their own cleanliness projects for the sake of the environment and with minimal initial expenditure, all while avoiding cumbersome governmental red tape. They start with what they have, right where they are. They typically succeed through sheer determination and the assistance of volunteer resources (both financial and human). The river Kali Bein in Punjab, India was cleaned up in the year 2000 by the well-known environmentalist Balbir Singh Seechewala with the help of just volunteers. Whereas most projects that are undertaken by large corporations or governments need substantial investment of time and money.

As a result, I would argue that it is not correct to say that people on their own cannot effect positive change for the betterment of the environment, and that only governments and large organisations can do so. In contrast to popular belief, a huge number of individuals acting independently and successfully for the sake of the environment can accomplish the mission of restoring nature to her pristine splendour.

Model Sample Answer 3 Band 7 - Individuals can do nothing to improve the environment. Only governments and large companies can make a difference. What extent do you agree or disagree?

It is commonly held nowadays that governments and multinational corporations are better equipped to clean up the environment than individuals are. In the next paragraphs, I'll elaborate on my arguments.

To begin, the government is better equipped to protect the environment due to the wide range of measures it can take. The transportation system, the leading contributor to global warming, is one of the many things that are primarily the purview of national governments. Due to inadequate public transportation options, many people in the United States rely significantly on their own cars. If the government invests in and makes improvements to the public transportation system, more people will choose to use it, and the difficulty associated with reducing pollution will be greatly reduced. But no single person can do these tasks.

However, big businesses play a crucial part in this as well. Waste from manufacturers, both in terms of toxic gases and water, is a significant contributor to pollution. It can be seen that during the process, manufacturers require a significant number of water and fuel. After that, the waste is released into the environment, which eventually leads to a decline in the quality of life for both humans and marine life. Many serious environmental concerns can be easily alleviated if multinational corporations employ eco-friendly raw materials and energy sources and properly dispose of water.

To wrap up, I no longer believe that the government and huge corporations can effectively improve the environment by providing better quality transportation and by switching to renewable energy sources.

Model Sample Answer 4 Band 6.5 - Individuals can do nothing to improve the environment. Only governments and large companies can make a difference. What extent do you agree or disagree?

People's inability to improve the climate is debatable. But the government and companies have a disproportionately large impact on global warming. Both are critically important to the fight to keep our natural world intact.

To begin, it is up to the government to enact rigorous regulations in order to preserve the environment. Today's businesses put profit before a healthy environment and pure air. One cause of air pollution is the release of harmful gases into the atmosphere, as is the case in industrialised regions. They also contribute to environmental degradation by dumping their garbage into waterways and oceans. As a result of this pollution, the lifespan of every living thing, including humans, has steadily declined over the years. Additionally, many marine species are in the midst of rapid reproductive growth. Governments should levy heavy fines on businesses that pollute the environment with harmful waste.

To further this goal, authorities should promote cleanliness through education and awareness campaigns. So, we should tell people to grow more plants in their yards, use less plastic, and recycle. The best approach for an average person to combat climate change, in my opinion, is to do something like this. The government should also encourage citizens to ditch their cars in favour of public transportation. The amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere is thus guaranteed. Drivers who are caught without their vehicle's quality check certificate should be subject to severe fines.

As a result, governments must enact stringent rules to force businesses to cut back on their hazardous emissions and waste. It's important to note that regular folks have a hand in making environmental changes, too.
