In recent times, there has been a rise in travel and tourism. Individuals or families prefer to travel to different destinations and explore more. Additionally, tourism has become more accessible and budget-friendly. People started exploring various countries for various purposes like employment, education, and tourism. Here the given statement is “International travel is becoming cheaper, and countries are opening their doors to more and more tourists. Do the advantages of increased tourism outweigh the disadvantages?” and in the following paragraph I will share my perspective.

When a country experiences an increase in tourism, there are both positive and negative aspects to consider. Firstly, there are numerous advantages associated with the growth of tourism in a country. Let's examine them individually. Firstly, there is the potential for economic growth. This implies that when a country welcomes tourists, it can contribute to the overall economic development of the nation. Tourism can generate income, employment and foreign exchange earnings of a country. It can also stimulate the production of goods and services which can lead to increased consumption and investment. The development of tourism in a country not only enhances the economic growth of a country, it will also help to develop the infrastructure, spread the culture of a country, environmental protection, etc.

On the other hand, there will be certain disadvantages when a country has increased their tourism. Some of the negative effects that can occur with increased tourism are environmental damage, displacement of local communities, pollution, and overcrowding. One main example is the degradation of natural resources and ecosystems, such as coral reefs, due to tourism activities. This can also contribute to increased greenhouse gas emissions and ultimately lead to global warming. Additionally, tourism can have socio-cultural impacts, including social conflicts, the erosion of local cultures, and an increase in crime rates.

In conclusion, my opinion is that the benefits of increased tourism in a country far outweigh the drawbacks. Despite the challenges that may rise from the growth in tourism, I believe that the advantages surpass them.

In recent years, there has been a substantial increase in the global tourism industry. With the emergence of international tourism, people have begun to explore various destinations around the world. As a result, countries are experiencing both positive and negative consequences from this trend. Here, I am going to share my viewpoint on whether the advantages of increased tourism outweigh the disadvantages. 

Increased tourism has a positive impact on a country's economy. For example, in India, tourism is the largest and fastest-growing industry, significantly contributing to the national economy. It plays a crucial role in the country's growth and development, particularly in terms of employment opportunities. In 2007, a report showed that tourism in India accounted for 6.23 percent of the country's GDP and was responsible for 8.78 percent of total employment.

Moreover, as tourism grows, the culture and craftsmanship of a country would also flourish. A prime example is India, where the thriving tourism industry has a positive impact on specific areas like traditional crafts and culture. The government actively supports the development and promotion of traditional crafts, recognizing their significance in India's tourism sector.

However, there are negative consequences associated with the growth of tourism, particularly in terms of social and cultural changes. One of these drawbacks is the potential destruction of a place’s culture. As more tourists visit a location, the local culture can be significantly altered. A prime example of this is Goa in India, which was known for its Hippy culture from the late 60’s to early 80’s. However, with the influx of thousands of tourists everyday, the entire culture had undergone a transformation, resulting in an increase in drug use and human trafficking. 

Overall, I believe that when tourism increases in a country, there will be both benefits and drawbacks as a consequence.

Model Sample Answer 3 Band 7 - International travel is becoming cheaper, and countries are opening their doors to more and more tourists. Do the advantages of increased tourism outweigh the disadvantages?

In the present time, many countries are welcoming tourists and working on improving their tourism sector. Here the given statement is that “international travel is becoming cheaper, and countries are opening their doors to more and more tourists. Do the advantages of increased tourism outweigh the disadvantages?”. However, I believe that the disadvantages of increased tourism outweigh the advantages.

The benefits of increased tourism brings about the infrastructure development, as it promotes the multi-use infrastructure of the country such as transportation options, healthcare facilities, sports centers and more in the country. Additionally, there will be a growth in hotels and high-end restaurants, with a rise in tourist numbers, there will be an increased demand for accommodations in that case the country would develop the hotels and restaurants.

However, there are several downsides associated with the growth of tourism in a nation. These include negative effects on the environment and ecosystem, depletion of natural resources and pollution. Firstly, one of the significant consequences of tourism is the increased strain it puts on the carrying capacity of the ecosystem in each tourist destination. Secondly, pollution becomes a concern as tourism contributes to similar forms of pollution as other industries, including air emissions, noise, solid waste and littering, which can have far-reaching impacts on coastal areas.  

In conclusion, the rise in global tourism has led to several environmental issues. However, I strongly believe that the negative aspects outweigh the positive ones, particularly in terms of overcrowding, pollution, and cultural exploitation.

Model Sample Answer 4 Band 6.5 - International travel is becoming cheaper, and countries are opening their doors to more and more tourists. Do the advantages of increased tourism outweigh the disadvantages?

Nowadays, the expense of traveling abroad is becoming more affordable and nations are becoming more welcoming to an increasing number of tourists. In my perspective, I think that the benefits of this rise in tourism outweigh the drawbacks. 

The substantial rise in tourism brings both benefits and drawbacks. One of the key issues is the heightened use of vehicles such as cars, trains, and buses, which can lead to increased carbon emissions. Furthermore, tourists can greatly contribute to land pollution, as the accumulation of non-biodegradable waste like plastic bottles, single-use plastic materials, straws etc creates numerous landfills. These activities can harm the environment,  resulting in various consequences such as global warming, soil erosion, and climate change.

I believe that the benefits will outweigh the drawbacks. For instance, tourism promotes the unification of various societies, Being More Culturally Sensitive, employment creation, Enriches Geographic Identity Globally, Objecting to Stereotypes. Let's examine these points one by one, starting with the unification of various societies. It allows travelers to learn about the histories, customs, and cultures of the places they visit. Additionally, it enriches global geographic identity when travelers explore new countries, they often gain new insights and experiences. Upon returning home, they are likely to share their adventures and what they learned, which helps to spread awareness of a country's unique qualities worldwide.

Overall, my perspective is that the advantages of the rise in tourism outweigh the drawbacks.
