Model Sample Answer 1 Band 8 - Online shopping is significantly increasing. What effects does this have on the environment and types of jobs required?
With the advancement of technology, in today’s society people are using the technology in various ways such as online transactions, online learning, online ticket booking for theaters and transportation, and notably online shopping. Here the given statement is that “online shopping is significantly increasing, what effects does this have on the environment”. I am going to share my perspective about the statement in the following paragraph.
Online shopping, also known as e-commerce shopping, is the process of buying goods and services from the seller using internet. It is similar to offline shopping but instead of visiting physical locations, customers can use the seller’s website or the shopping app they have. For instance, Amazon is an online shopping portal, where customers would buy goods and services through the Amazon app.
Online shopping is an easy process of buying goods but it has both positive and negative effects on the environment. First, let’s discuss the positive effects on the environment. Online shopping allows people to save time, perceive it as a safer option, and provides a wider range of product choices. For example, online stores offer a greater variety of collections, even for individual items, compared to physical stores. Secondly the negative effects on the environment such as land pollution. It is caused by the plastic covers and bubble wraps used to protect products during delivery were dumped in the garbage by the customers. These materials are not easily recyclable or biodegradable, as a result it leads to environmental problems.
To sum up, yes online shopping has increased significantly because people prefer online shopping more than physical shopping. However, it has both positive and negative impact on the environment as well as on the individual.
Model Sample Answer 2 Band 7.5 - Online shopping is significantly increasing. What effects does this have on the environment and types of jobs required?
In recent times, there is a vast growth in the trend of people becoming dependent on online shopping. This can be attributed to various factors like, convenience, availability, comparison etc. However, it is important to mention that this behavior has some effects on the environment. In the following paragraph, I will share my viewpoint about the statement “online shopping has significantly increased. What are the effects on environment”
The main negative harm of online shopping is the huge amount of waste produced from packaging. Online shopping results in a significant quantity of packaging waste, which refers to any material utilized to safeguard, contain, handle, or transport goods and is typically thrown away once the items are taken out. This waste encompasses various materials such as paper, cardboard, plastic, glass, metal, and biodegradable substances. Packaging waste has a significant effect on the environment due to its tendency to be used only once or for a short period of time. According to a study, online shopping generates around 4.8 times more packaging waste than offline shopping.
On the other side, there is a positive impact on the environment, namely the reduction of waste from raw materials and land usage. Online shopping allows sellers to reduce their use of raw materials since they only produce items only when they receive an order, resulting in less waste and the need for warehouses is reduced. Finally, internet shopping enables us to decrease both raw materials waste and land consumption.
In conclusion, the significant rise in online shopping has brought advantages and disadvantages. Nevertheless, In my opinion, the utilization of online shopping has simplified our lives and provided various benefits, such as time-saving, accessibility at any time, and more.
Model Sample Answer 3 Band 7 - Online shopping is significantly increasing. What effects does this have on the environment and types of jobs required?
In today's world, people are increasingly focused on earning money. In the midst of their hectic lives, online shopping has become a convenient solution that simplifies their daily routines. With the advancements in technology, people have begun utilizing online platforms to purchase a wide range of items including groceries, household goods, clothing, and even food. In this discussion, I will explore the notable expansion of online shopping and its impact on the environment.
Online shopping is the most convenient method of shopping, which involves using the internet and mobile phones from wherever we are. It has both positive and negative effects on the environment. One of the positive impacts is the reduction in traffic and congestion. For instance, when people need to buy something, they usually drive to a market or store. However, if they switch to online shopping, there is less need for individuals to go out and use vehicles. Instead, delivery personnel can bring the purchased items directly to customers' homes.
On the other hand, the negative impact on the environment was an increase in greenhouse gas emission. As online shopping became more popular, there was also a significant increase in internet usage. As a result, each online activity contributes to a higher amount of greenhouse gasses being released. This, in turn, can lead to global warming and various climate changes, such as increased surface air and ocean temperatures as well as rising sea levels.
To sum up, I believe that the advantages are more significant than the drawbacks. These advantages include creating job opportunities for both part-time and full-time workers, fostering entrepreneurship, and reducing pollution, traffic, and congestion.
Model Sample Answer 4 Band 6.5 - Online shopping is significantly increasing. What effects does this have on the environment and types of jobs required?
Nowadays the trend of doing online shopping has increased significantly. Here I am going to share my perspective about the given statement that “Online shopping is significantly increasing. What effects does this have on the environment and types of jobs required?”
To start, the rise of online shopping has led to a corresponding increase in its environmental impact. However, I believe that the positive effects of online shopping outweigh the negative ones when it comes to the environment. Some of the positive impacts include creating job opportunities, providing convenience and time savings, and offering a wide range of options. For example, let's consider the employment opportunities that online shopping provides. Amazon, one of the leading online shopping platforms, employs over 1,608,000 individuals in various positions like web developer, delivery person, marketing, designers, etc.
In addition, online shopping provides the advantage of being accessible 24/7, allowing individuals to conveniently shop from the comfort of their own home or office. This eliminates the need for travel and the inconvenience of dealing with crowded stores and traffic. Furthermore, online stores offer a greater variety of products and collections compared to physical stores. You can find almost everything you need, whether it’s personal items like dresses, accessories, household necessities, groceries, elections etc.
In conclusion, I believe that online shopping has more positive impacts than the negative impacts on both the environment and individual life.
