Incentives can increase a child's motivation to study and improve his academic performance. That increases his overall performance. The reward is something trivial that nonetheless has a significant influence. If a child is rewarded and cherished by his teachers, he will instantly feel respect and affection for them. He will pay closer attention in order to get additional prizes from his teachers. Those who perform poorly in their academics, for instance, should not be penalized. Perhaps if he excels at athletics, he must be recognized and rewarded for his talent. As a result, he will work harder to make his professors pleased and will develop a greater interest in sports.

On the other hand, punishing a child for not paying enough attention to his schoolwork can traumatize him. He will experience a feeling of panic and lose all interest in his studies.
