Consolidated Marksheet

A Consolidated marksheet is an accumulation of all the academic marks or grades received. The consolidated mark sheet document is given to an individual after completing any particular course with all years or semester exams. This mark sheet acts as verification of course completion. Transcripts are referred to as consolidated marksheets. For all subjects and semesters, universities can provide grades on a single transcript. Consolidated mark sheets given by the institution are majorly required when applying for higher education anywhere in the world. Read this blog till the end to know more about consolidated marksheet.

What is Consolidated Marksheet?

A Consolidated marksheet is a document issued by the university to the candidate after the completion of any specific course with all years or semester exams. Simply, if your pursued course has 6 semesters, your consolidated mark sheet will have grades from all the semesters (one to six), including your overall CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) calculated at the end of the course. The consolidated mark sheet stands as proof of completion of the course. The mark sheet contains student information such as

  • Program or course name
  • Student Name and Roll number
  • Institution/College Name and university name providing marksheet
  • Marks earned in all the semesters(or years) like the list of all subjects, grades obtained, and CGPA score.
  • Total credits, university seal, and obtained Division (pass/fail).

What is the difference between Consolidated Marksheet and Individual Score Card?

  • In contrast to a consolidated marksheet, an individual scorecard is limited to a single(one) semester and its grades and GPA are added to that.
  • In addition to that, there are separate marks for internal and external examinations in an individual semester scorecard. However, overall marks combined are mentioned in the consolidated marksheet.

Difference between Consolidated Mark Sheet and Consolidated Certificate

Consolidated marksheet and Consolidated Certificate are the same, there is no difference. Both documents give the student’s performance during the programme duration. It records the student’s semester-wise grades and also provides feedback on their performance while attending the classes. Key features of the Consolidated Certificate are:

  • Contain Candidate’s academic performance details.
  • Semester-wise performance throughout the course is mentioned.
  • Certificates can be issued only after course completion.

Consolidated Marksheet vs Provisional vs Transcripts

A consolidated marksheet is offered as a provisional record to prove that a student has successfully completed the degree in particular subjects. It shows subject-specific marks of each semester exam expressed as CGPA.

A Provisional Certificate can also act as proof to state that a student has completed their degree without any backlogs. Unlike Consolidated marksheet, it doesn’t provide semester-wise CGPA. Instead, it calculates the total aggregate of the degree by averaging the aggregates from each semester. Moreover, it also mentions the student’s achieved division such as first, second, or third division.

A transcript is a document that fully outlines the student’s overall academic performance. It majorly includes course duration and grading based on university standards.  Transcripts are accepted by almost all universities, and visa offices for master’s or higher education.

All three documents (consolidated marksheet, transcripts & provisional certificate) are valid and recognised by universities. Candidates can also use them in their job applications.

What should be included in a Transcript?

While submitting a transcript as your official document to abroad colleges/universities ensure that the following specifications are accurate

  • There should be the signature of the appropriate university/college authorities like the principal or registrar on the transcript.
  • A transcript has to be printed on the university or college letterhead.
  • The transcript format should be as per the university standards and not the format of a consolidated marksheet, that is usually provided by Indian universities and colleges.
  • The transcript must be sent to the universities abroad in a sealed envelope displaying the stamp and signature of the appropriate authority.

What are the elements included in a transcript?

  • The total course duration (weeks, months, or years).
  • Instruction Medium
  • Academic distinction/division: First, Second, or Third
  • University details like established date, number of courses offered, headquarters contact information.
