IELTS Writing Task 2 Sample 1
1. Climate change is a big environmental problem that has become critical in the last couple of decades. Some people claim that humans should stop burning fossil fuels and use only alternative energy resources, such as wind and solar power. Others say that oil, gas and coal are essential for many industries, and not using them will lead to economic collapse.
What is your opinion?
One of the problems that the contemporary world is facing is climate change. There is a divided opinion whether we should use fossil fuels or use only alternative energy sources. In my opinion, it's better to choose renewable energy sources over non-renewable energy sources though it is important for the functioning of several industries.
It is believed and argued that fossil fuels are an inevitable source for many factories to develop financially. But, still it can be replaced by several alternatives. It could take time to redesign the functions of the factories, still, striving to achieve that goal is worthwhile. Several countries like the UK are trying to replace electric cars to fuel cars. Though it is not possible at this time, planning and achieving that is a way to bring a better environment.
Green energy can be utilised to improve the world in terms of environment. Government has to take actions regarding the natural resources energy. Thus, it becomes possible for humanity to live well without hurting the environment. As this has numerous benefits, it has to be considered instead of using fossil fuels. According to research, it is better to use technology to obtain energy from natural resources. Humans should develop technology which uses and conserves green energy. This will help our quality of life and can pass the earth in a good manner to our future generations.
To conclude, I understand that industries need fossil fuels to gain financial advantages. Still, it would be better to use the energy from natural resources that will prevent our earth from being harmed.

2. Better driver education for better driving habits is more effective than heavier punishments for driving offences. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
In this modern world, everyone uses some sort of transport for their purpose. Some drive their vehicles out of excitement or out of a lack of skill or concern, which causes serious accidents. I agree that proper driving education can decrease driving offences more than heavier punishments.
Education restructures the perception of an individual. Some people perceive that driving is a heroic adventure and some think that it is a way to prove the image of a risk taker. By educating the driving purposes and why we have to drive safely, we can make them understand the real reason behind all of the traffic rules and all. It is essential to teach them the serious consequences of driving offences.
Punishments never orients the people in a proper way. We are punishing someone to stop certain acts. It could prevent the problem to some extent. But, they never know why to negate certain actions. They could find ways to transgress the rules where the source of punishment is absent. For example: Riding a book in overspeed can cause accidents. But, it also gives an adventurous experience. Though police punish them, they will choose a road where police are not present to drive in a speedy fashion.
In this essay, I gave two justifications on why better driving education can have good impacts compared to severe punishments. Education will give good understanding on driving vehicles and traffic rules and regulations. And, punishment never solves the problem, instead it just gives an illusion that the problem is solved.
IELTS Writing Task 2 Sample 3
3. Spoken communication is always more powerful than written communication. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
There are two types of communication: Written and Spoke. Some believe that spoken communication is always more powerful than written communication. I partially agree with this statement. In the following paragraphs, I justify my decision.
The mode of spoken communication can complete the actions and tasks in a quick manner. Teamwork and collaboration is important to complete any bigger plans and projects. Communication is a base to make that function in a better way. Especially, speaking to others and sharing ideas with others quickens the process of achievement. Without spoken communication, we will go through unwanted problems and errors.
But, written communication is also important to carry over our language to further generations. Our ancestors recorded their wisdom in the form of writing. Written records can endure in the long run, but speaking is the opposite. Speaking is fleeting. It will stay only in a temporary fashion. And, we cannot remember all sorts of wisdom and knowledge, even if we are able to, we’re just a mortal being, we could die at any moment. In this case, written communication helps us to advance important morals and understanding to the future generations.
I partially agree with the statement that expressing spoken communication is better than written communication. Speaking can make things happen faster. But, writing gives our language a long life. Each form of communication has their strengths and weaknesses. Each language has to be spoken and written by people. Without that, it will be like the Darwinian notion, “ Disuse will lead to Decay”.

4. Rich countries are getting richer while poor countries are getting poorer. What is the cause of this? What could be done to solve this problem?
It is obvious that the developed countries are growing wisely and the underdeveloped countries are still struggling to develop. In this essay, I will state the possible reasons behind the case and can suggest solutions to rectify it.
Wealthier countries are getting richer because there are many companies and industries that are keen to invest and open branch offices in these countries than the poorer countries. As a result, it leads to the employment of skilled workers. In the case of developing countries, there will be a lack of employment opportunities and skilled workers might end-up visiting the richer countries for employment. This will make the poorer countries decline in terms of the economical growth, technological or any kind of advancements.
This economic depreciation of the underprivileged countries will change only if some industry is ready to look for the skilled labours from those countries. Also, start having tie-ups with these countries and take part in the nation's development on the whole. There are many organisations that help poor countries with money. For instance, the World Health Organisation is raising funds for India in order to make the students have education with proper meals. Also, these countries need to improve the wages and working spaces to reduce the people’s migration to some other countries.
In conclusion, to create a right balance between the developed countries and underdeveloped countries, the rich countries should lend a hand for them in the aspects of technology, or for the essential facilities. Also, the global organisations should be ready to consider the skilled people and utilise their abilities and energy by offering employment in their country itself.

5. A large number of people are being killed in road accidents every year. Why do so many accidents occur ? Make recommendations that would help to reduce the number of road accidents
In India, every year, on an average of 1,50,000 people die in road accidents. This needs to be addressed by the government and the people in general. In this essay, I will discuss the reasons behind it and some suggestions to solve it.
To begin with, the main reason behind the accidents is not having self discipline and not following the traffic rules. Nowadays, young people think that violating the rules and rash driving can project them as a heroic person and make them get more views in their social media handles. Secondly, many teenagers drive by consuming drugs and alcohol which will not only make them lose their lives but also the innocent people on the roads. For instance, we often hear the news of hit and run cases which happen because the driver is intoxicated and does not have control over their driving.
To control the increase in road accidents, the government needs to create advertisements regarding the road accidents that are taking place in every place. These days, creative advertisements made by the government are also getting noticed by the people using social media handles. For instance, the hashtag save nesamani has recently been a trend. Using that, the police department created an awareness poster of ‘wear helmet’ that had a great response over many people. Also, the government needs to take severe action towards the people who were misbehaving and violating the basic traffic rules by putting them into prison.
To conclude, it is known that the road accidents are creating a huge impact in the loss of people’s lives. To reduce accidents, every individual needs to follow the traffic rules and regulations that are made by the government. Also, the government needs to create campaigns to make people aware of the cause of it. Thus, this recommendation will help to limit the accidents.

6. Nowadays, we are living in a throw-away society. What are its causes and what are its problems? What could be done to address this issue?
In the 21st century, people are having a busy lifestyle. It is known that many people prefer shopping online rather than in the physical stores. They don’t have enough time to pay attention to the things and products they buy. This results in a throw-away society. In this essay, I will explain the main cause and the problems it will create and give a suitable solution for it.
The main cause of the throw-away culture is the frequent and impulsive shopping behaviour. After the pandemic, many people preferred that products delivered at the door-steps without leaving their house. Many of them purchase things not for, they really need them, just because they are attracted by the package, product or any. For instance, there are many videos that we saw in Youtube where the youtubers receive more products for the PR and tend to discard the unused makeup products. Even though those are new products, throwing it away will end-up collecting as a waste. This will result in increasing the production, investment of resources, labour cost, and others. Producing the products for the needs of the individuals is essential than doing it for throwing away.
To address this, the government needs to create awareness of the waste each individual creates. Thus people can be aware that the unused waste will affect the environment, businesses, economy and also the future generations. This can be done by creating advertisements regarding the impact of waste and the cost the country spends for the waste management. Also, they can have tie-ups with the brand and create campaigns to reduce the amount of waste. For instance, the Surf excel advertisement gives the message of reducing the throw-away culture, so that the future generations will be able to see the creatures that exist.
In conclusion, the practice of waste creation will hugely affect the planet and the lives of the people. This needs to be addressed by the government and the people which helps to reduce the huge amount of waste and the money spent.

7. Some people say history is one of the most important school subjects. Other people think that, in today's world, subjects like science and technology are more important than History. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Nowadays science and technology plays a very important role in everyone's life. As we use more technology people have become more interested in it. Even though history is something everyone should know, in the present times people are more curious about learning technology.
Countries are spending a lot of money on research and development considering the benefits it has for the people. So there is so much demand for people who are skilled and interested in science and technology. Even private companies are now focusing on people who are skilled at multiple technologies. This increased the value of the subject and the demand for people interested in it. The number of institutions teaching the subject has also increased exponentially.
On the other hand, history is also an important subject that is taught in school that helps to know the events that have happened long back. It is important to learn history so that we stop repeating the mistakes in the future. It also helps to know how the people lived in the past. From this we can learn how to solve the problems that our ancestors faced and create a better and peaceful future for us and the next generations.
Concluding this essay, it is good that we learn any subject as it has its own uses. But considering the present situation we have a lot to go in terms of innovation in technology and we have to invest more time and money for it and it will be definitely useful for us in the future.

8. As the world becomes technologically advanced, computers are replacing more and more jobs. Describe some job positions that may be lost because of computers and discuss one problem that may result.
In the present world machines have replaced a lot of humans to do the jobs that they were doing once. In this essay we can see some of the jobs that are done by computers now instead of humans and some problems that may occur due to this.
Many softwares have been created to ease many jobs like teaching, accounting and sales etc. and in this process, the number of people required to do that particular job has decreased. Nowadays people choose to shop online which has resulted in companies choosing to sell only online and shut down their physical stores. Students are choosing distance learning and avoiding going to colleges and have reduced the demand for teachers. The work of the cashier has been highly automated y softwares which once required a lot of people. A recent study shows that a lot of people lost their jobs due to the growth of the e-commerce industry.
Even though many people have lost their jobs, softwares has highly reduced the work of humans. Many jobs now require only very less effort and time and as technology develops more and more people are going to lose their jobs. These jobs are taking away the livelihood and source of income of these people which is going to affect them personally and also the economy of the nations. This will lead to people doing illegal and unethical activities to earn money.
Concluding the essay, the development of technology will surely replace many people’s jobs. As discussed above the workless population will find other ways to earn money needed to live their lives.

9. Museums and art galleries should show local history and culture instead of work from different countries. Discuss both views and give opinion.
Nowadays museums in most countries display local work from their own places. But many countries showcase work from other countries too. Museums are a place where history is preserved and serves a purpose. So countries can showcase all types of work from all over the world.
Museums attract a good amount of crowd into it and bring economic growth to a country. India has a very diverse culture, language and history. People who are interested in exploring different cultures and traditions will come to see this which will contribute to the tourism economy. Hence there will be more people working in the museums and places that connect to the museum. Moreover it is good to spread awareness about our traditions to the rest of the world.
Showcasing work from other countries is beneficial for people who cannot afford to go abroad. People can visit the museums and see cultures from different countries. This can help in imparting knowledge about other countries without travelling there. If museums are able to use technology like virtual reality people can get a better experience in knowing more about the work displayed in the museums. Museums must be able to showcase both local and abroad work in them so that they can attract people of different interests.
In conclusion, countries and people should accept the diversity and cultures in their country and also other countries. This will bring more knowledge and will open up the minds of people in our society. As a country it will benefit from it economically and socially.
IELTS Writing Task 2 Sample 10
10. Consumers are faced with increasing numbers of advertisements from competing companies. To what extent do you think are consumers influenced by advertisements? What measures can be taken to protect them?
Companies across different industries make huge investments in advertising their products and services. Since advertisements yield positive results, they do a lot of research on customers’ behaviour and preferences and customise products accordingly. Here, we will look in detail to what extent consumers are influenced by advertisements and how to protect them.
Due to smartphones, people as consumers are constantly indulging in social media and other online activities. They are prone to tons of advertisements every day and are not sure whether it's required or not. On the other hand, the internet or any search engine does not provide the facility to block advertisements which in turn squeezes out people’s time and data. Consumers blindly get attracted to various advertisements and buy them without realising that it’s unnecessary. In the recent past, if they don’t buy any product, they feel depressed or lack enthusiasm.
To overcome this situation, consumers must wake up from their dreamland. People who stop using mobile phones unnecessarily can prevent almost 60% of advertisements. The remaining advertisements come from newspapers, TV and radio. When people come to know of the business tactics, they will get awareness and eventually have self-control. Since companies justify their advertisements as a part of their business strategies, they don’t guarantee a permanent solution.
Presently, humans are engulfed with technology and various gadgets; they are forced to witness advertisements everywhere. Well, it is the consumer’s side to stop being addicted to advertisements offering discounts, points, credits, etc., and start spending valuable time. Moreover, they must know what is necessary and unnecessary for them. It gives them clarity for decision-making.

11. In some countries, more and more people are becoming interested in finding out about the history of the house or building they live in. What are the reasons for this? How can people research this?
Recently, people from some countries started digging out the past of their houses or the building they live in. They wanted to know the history of the house, like when it was built, who bought it, any alterations made, etc. In the subsequent paragraphs, we will discuss the reasons why people want to know the history and how they do it.
It is interesting to see people’s willingness to know the history of the houses or the building they live in. Since houses possess lots of information and memories, it is good to know its old days. It will reveal a lot about the past. One of the reasons to know history is to understand the culture and norms practised in the past. Secondly, to know with what material the building was constructed. Next would be the ancestral lineage about that house. Sometimes people may want to know out of curiosity.
To know history, people use different methods. For instance, some refer to the municipality corporation’s official data to find out its registration and other legal information. Some seek information from neighbours and old tenants. Some pay a visit to the first owner and get information. Astonishingly, all this information more or less matches with each other and feels reliable.
After collecting information about the history of the house or the building they live in, they are overwhelmed. Now they try to replicate the past to the present by introducing ventilation in the middle, empty spaces to sit outside the house, and so on. It’s good to see retro model houses emerging slowly and steadily.
IELTS Writing Task 2 Sample 12
12. Nowadays we are producing more and more rubbish. Why do you think this is happening? What can governments do to help reduce the amount of rubbish produced?
When anything becomes excessive, it eventually leads to wastage or rubbish. After the advent of technology and allied products, people tend to leave more and more rubbish than produce useful items. Unfortunately, they didn’t find a way to eliminate the rubbish in a faster way, leading to various repercussions like air, water and soil pollution.
Earlier, people bought products out of necessity and kept them safely for years. But now, every product has an expiry date. Whatever products manufacturers produce need an update, extra features, add-ons, etc. and more importantly, it needs maintenance. So today’s people feel lazy and go for new products and forget about maintenance. They want an easy life where everything should come with a click of a button. In addition, people who earn more spend more and waste more. They don’t know what to do with their money and spend on wasteful items.
Governments should impose certain regulations on consumers. They can’t throw away things just because they bought a new one. In fact, the government should provide incentives or some form of leverage to people to reduce waste or to recycle the waste. Similarly, the government should find out a sustainable way to dispose of the rubbish and leave a wasteless society.
An environment with a clean atmosphere promises a sustainable future for the next generation. Countries across the globe must unite and come up with a resolution against waste materials. Similarly, governments and other stakeholders must keep this in mind and work towards achieving a greener future.

13. A lot of places in the world rely on tourism as a main source of income. Unfortunately, tourism can also be a source of problems if it is not managed correctly.
Do you think that the benefits of tourism outweigh its drawbacks?
Tourism is the world's fourth largest industry and it is obvious that many countries rely on tourism industries for financial support, but it can cause some problems if any mishandling happens. In my opinion, there are more benefits than drawbacks. However, I will discuss both the advantages and disadvantages in the following paragraphs.
Firstly, tourism develops into a practice that creates the foundation for widespread consumption and has far more advantages. As activity with broad-reaching positive effects on society, the economy, and industries, tourism is becoming more and more significant for a country's overall growth, development, and progress. The basis and wide context of the tourism business, through which the majority of advantages are gained by the nation as a whole, are also established by the concept of tourism.
On the other hand, there are many impacts on the countries because of tourism. With dangers including erosion, pollution, the destruction of natural ecosystems, and forest fires, tourism often has a negative impact on the environment. The huge amount of visitors, even if they act ethically, can harm an area. Moreover, money is directed to tourist areas when it could be used more effectively elsewhere in a country. Locals who don't live in specific tourist areas miss out and experience a relative decline.
In conclusion, it is certainly the fastest-growing sector in the world, with the economies of many different countries relying on it, which undoubtedly is supporting global growth. There are some hazardous strings attached, but they can be readily controlled if properly observed. In this situation, I'm confident in saying that the benefits outweigh the drawbacks.

14. New technologies have changed the way children spend their free time. Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?
The world has been transformed by technology, and the newest creations have completely changed how kids spend their free time. Because it has a negative impact on people's social and physical well-being, I believe the drawbacks outweigh the advantages. Let’s discuss both the advantages and disadvantages in the upcoming paragraphs.
To begin with, the major advantage of this transformation for kids is that it might aid in their development of a number of important abilities. Children's language skills like listening, pronunciation, and vocabulary, are enhanced when they use computers, for instance. Moreover, another significant benefit is that it broadens kids' perspectives on the world. They can also use the internet's multimedia resources to learn about a variety of international locations.
However, youngsters who use computers frequently suffer from a lot of drawbacks. Firstly, a screen addiction can make kids live unhealthy lives and develop specific diseases like obesity. Additionally, in some rare circumstances, spending more time in front of computers or other gadgets can harm children's mental health. Secondly, spending a lot of time watching TV or playing electronic games rather than interacting with their friends has the negative effect of making people less sociable. As a result, as kids get older, they can find it difficult to interact with others, which means that this practice could ultimately be detrimental to their life.
To sum up, despite the fact that modern technology has changed how children use their free time and improved their technical skills. The pros and negatives of this topic are pretty obvious, but the disadvantages undoubtedly have a greater impact on children's lives, particularly in the long run. Therefore, I believe that the disadvantages outweigh its benefits as it keeps kids socially isolated and causes their health to be at risk.
IELTS Writing Task 2 Sample 15
15. Some people believe that children should be allowed to stay at home and play until they are six or seven years old. Others believe that it is important for young children to go to school as soon as possible.
What do you think are the advantages of attending school from a young age?
The energetic nature of today's children makes every parent eager to quicken their child's development. The parents are in charge of enrolling their kids in school at the proper age. It might be argued that sending kids to school is more convenient than having them at home. I believe that if a child is put to school at an early age, then it will be more beneficial to children's future.
First of all, due to the extended study period, a youngster who enrols in school early may be able to acquire more knowledge and abilities. This could significantly boost his chances of succeeding in life because, in modern society, a person's knowledge and skills are the basis of their job. Moreover, early enrollment in school could help students take advantage of the tremendous potential of this stage of life. Consequently, a good foundation for a successful life may happen through early learning.
There are, however, a few exceptions. Some parents consider social and mental development to be just as vital as psychological development. In order to become stronger and more active, they first require exposure. The opportunity to play both mental and physical games is provided to students in the classroom. The importance of social connection cannot be overstated in addition to these activities. The environment can sometimes help kids learn more quickly.
To conclude, there are many advantages as well as some drawbacks to early schooling. But, I think that early schooling helps children to learn things quickly since kids at an early age have more abilities to learn new things fast.
